A question for you all!

We are considering doing titanium caps. If we move forward and all goes as planned we will likely discontinue the SS caps completely. If we are able to do the titanium for the same price as we are currently selling the SS caps, which is looking promising, would anybody miss the SS?

Titanium would be much better because the SS caps are heavy. A tall tank with SS caps makes my mods top heavy so YES on titanium. :)

My vote? I have the three tanks. They don't get used OFTEN but one reason I didn't do SS is it adds weight. May not seem like a lot ofweight. But when you put a tank on a bolt, or lava tube, (something light for a mod), that weight CAN be substantial. I may not order right away, but I think my vote would be convert over.

Thanks for both of your inputs. I agree totally but before we discontinue the SS altogether I wanted to make sure it wouldn't cause a riot. I really cant imagine anyone complaining over the change, the benefits of Titanium far out weigh those of SS, but you never know.

There wouldn't be a riot unless the titanium cost twice as much as the SS.

Do me a favor and shoot me an email ( jennifer@phiniac.com ) and let me know what size green tank and design you want and I will make sure you get one. We didn't make many of the color tanks this time and when Chris does get around to doing his quality control thing, I will shoot an email.

It wont be till after new years until I order another, well anything, since the wife has threatened me with couch for the entire year if I keep buying stuff.

Well, Titanium actually should be more expensive then SS, but it looks like I can do the titanium for pretty much what we are charging for the SS give or take a few dollars. But I really do not see the benefit of continuing the SS at all if the titanium is priced pretty much the same.

I know exactly how she feels. If we aren't talking months after new years shoot me an email anyway and I will try to hold one for you. We aren't making as many colored tanks as we used to, interest for them seems to have slowed down.

All of the benefit and none of the drawback? Where's the fun in that?

;)

I don't think you'd sell that many steel caps if you offered titanium, anyway--except to the people who get all freaky about things matching exactly and who happen to have a polished stainless steel PV.

To be honest we sell SS drip trips and Titanium drip tips. If I hold the same drip tip in the two metals next to each other you can't visually tell the difference until you hold them. Then the weight difference immediately tells you which is which. But they look pretty much identical.

When you polish stainless steel to the point that it outshines chrome, there will be nothing you could do to the grey titanium to make it match exactly the blue stainless steel--especially for the kind of fanatic that polishes a steel mod multiple times a day. It's not as obvious as the difference between sterling silver and silver plate when held next to each other, but it's there.

Personally, my stuff will never be that shiny (and I wouldn't want it to be). I'd lay strong money that the vast majority of vapers wouldn't notice a difference (and wouldn't care if they could/did notice)--but I have seen people dumping titanium accessories because they didn't match their stainless mods. Heck, I've seen people call out makers for using different grades of stainless on different parts of a mod because they polished up differently (and it turned out they were right--it was a mix of 304 and 316 stainless ).

If you can do titanium caps for the same price as stainless, it seems like a no-brainer to me to do it (I'd buy another set of caps just to save on the weight). I'm just suggesting you hold back a few of the stainless sets for the odd request from people who can see the difference (whether it's imaginary or not ;))

I take my ggts's and rub them down. That's it. They get used. I don't want them beat to hell mind you, but if I'm going to have the mod, it damn well will be used. So I'm like you, not going to pull out the cape cods every two hours.
With that said, I have two tanks that I may add caps for some day. I would go with titanium. One reason I didn't is the tanks would go on lower end mods. Those mods are light and tip worthy more so.
