Damascus steel and I forgot the name of black wood
Is that actually REAL Damascus steel, or some sort of polymer/acrylic/composite?
I see a lot of stuff on here (drip tips/mod panels) that claim to be "Damascus" or "Mokome Gane", but are shaped in ways that would take HOURS of work by an expert machinist using a milling machine and a LOT of patience. (in other words--several hundreds of $$$ of machine-shop time)
From what I know about pattern-welded steels, shaping them like this is about as difficult as it gets with metal working, and requires a lot of specialized tooling, REALLY slow working, a built-in expectation that about 25% of every attempt will fail during machining, and master-level machinist skills.
There is a reason why highly figured custom knives made of these materials can cost as much as an automobile--not many people can do it, and the material is prone to break/chip/split during machining.
I'm not "calling you out" or accusing you of anything, I'm just curious as to what this material REALLY is...
