RGM, the only difference I've noticed is that the longer, 5 inch and 8 inch, stems will cool the vapor slightly. Aside from that, the material used for these pipe stems is Lucite (aka acrylic) and it does not change the flavor in my experience. I haven't had to adjust my draw to get a good puff, either. It's a very natural feeling puffing on these pipes. Get one (or five).
I should add that the long 8" churchwarden stem is actually made from vulcanized rubber. They
do seem to impart a slightly rubbery taste when I draw air through it. Does anyone else get that?
Ps- I'm working on a link for some 8" Lucite churchwardens. It's looking promising, and should be available in several colors.
