I've been reading through this forum, and I have an old Stanwell 63m Vario pipe that I bought new when I was 16 (don't ask). I would like to give this pipe a new lease on life as an epipe mod. With a little careful drilling, it would fit a 18350 battery, but would come close to coming out the bottom of the pipe. would I be better off trying to use the shorter and smaller 16340 battery? How much depth does the V2 pipe button take up? The pipe looks similar to this one, though mine looks a bit nicer:

PLANofMAN.......Maybe this will help you out.....
If you mean a v2 button/EPM's.....you need 8mms, or a minimum 7mms. Lets start with a 18350 button top battery......
8mm + 35mm(aw or efest IMR battery) + 2mms(plus connecter) = 45mms...Or with a FUSE(vapesafe,etc) add 2mms = 47mms
..............................The advantage of using a Fuse, besides safety is the magnet to hold ever thing in the bowl............I say 4mms here , this just a guess.....
A 18350 flat top.........7mm + 34mms + 4mms = 45mms........If you don't use the Fuse you subtract 2mms, but........
A 16340 battery....I looked around, I couldn't find a flat top....MadVapes has a EH that is 35mms long, Avid vapers has a AW that is more that likely 34mms.......So you get 2mms less in diameter, but not in length........
You list....bowl height at 47.5 mm....chamber depth 37.08 mm (need about 8mm more depth).....chamber diameter 19.05 mm....this is good, as that is 3/4" just right for a 18mm battery......Note: the EPM button is 22.mm and change...7/8" in diameter......
Your problem is getting a 3/4" FLAT bottom hole in the pipe bowl......Try this.... measure down the outside of the pipe, and mark it at say 47mms, caliper the bowl there....Take that measurement and subtract 3/4" from it, and divide by two......
If that out side measurement is less than 1-1/4"'s ....doing this gets iffy........my
There are also 15270 batteries......but this comes with it's own set of problems......
In closing let me say, I have build a few E-Pipes from scratch, but I have never DIY'd a tobacco pipe......So this is just my opinion on the subject..........hope this helps......

Good info there duckie. I've picked up a few freehands off of ebay recently and waiting on a few parts to complete the conversions. Before and after photos to follow once complete.

So today I recieved my first epipe. The Kamry k1000. Ive wanted an epipe for quite a long tike but nothing seemed like it did most of what I wanted it to AND LOOKED like a pipe. I toyed with the idea of a home spun epipe, but I didnt want to commit the time. The smok epipe just didnt do it for me looks and style wise. And the 618 and king epipes had their drawbacks.
Ive had time to use the K1000 since this afternoon and I am extremely pleased with this epipe. I got it at akavapers.com for just under $50 as a kit. The pipe, a case, charger, and two batteries. While I really didnt want a kit (no use for anything but the mod itself on my end) I decided the two extra batts werent a bad thing. Kamry IMR 18350 900 MAH batts. Im sure under the kamry wrapper they are some generic imr 18350 although I didnt check.
The build quality is pretty darn good. Its a solid chunk of metal for the pipe head, and its actually quite heavy. It fits flat tops only. The kamry batts, efest 18350s no problems. The switch throw on the top of the pipe bowl is well placed. Big enough to throw with winter gloves on. It takes a very light touch too which I really like. There is no locking mechanism which I see as a drawback but as long as you pocket it in a way that you are aware then I dont see it being a big problem. I wouldnt put it in a pocket with keys or anything that will active the switch though.
The tank is a modified smok type of vivi nova. It has the spring loaded pos post in the 510 connection, Plastic tank, stainless top cap and bottom. Vision model vivi nova atties will not work in it. I checked already. I immediately rebuilt the stock 2.5 ohm coil in the atty head (it was garbage) and put in a 1.7 ohm coil.
The Pipe stem is nice. Fit snugly on just about every atty I tried it on. Cobra, mini did, agat2, vision vivis, and even boge cartos. I did find some incompatablity on using it with chinese generic vivis available from fasttech. The top cap on those doesnt allow the pipe stem to mount deep enough. It does seem to spin around a little with use but its not jiggly like it will simply fall out. Even so, I recommend using some dental floss under the orings on the pipe stem to make it a bit more snug.
It vapes as good as any other mechanical mod I have when using a nova. When using a genny atomizer you may have some issues with wick placement. Ideally you'd like the wick to line up with the pipe stem and on the bottom so the wick is lying in the liquid, so as not to dry out or have to tilt the mod. HOWEVER, clever little bunch at kamry has built a collar that is removeable which screws over the positive pin. You can fiddle with this and adjust the wick placement to some extent. Actually its probably a great feature if you can dial it in right. If you just crank everything down the k1000 WILL push up the center posts on your genny, so be aware of this and adjust the 510 ring accordingly.
Im very pleased so far. Is it a true 100% mechanical mod? Eh, I dunno. I cant see how they could complete the circut without a wire running thru someplace. However, I can say that I ran a coulple different 1.0 ohm coils on my rbas and the k1000 seemed to handle them just fine.
I havent had a misfire or a problem to speak of with this mod so far. So if you are looking for a last minute christmas gift for a vaper you love... pick this up. Its worth the $50 just for the fun factor alone. Im diggin it!

PlanofMan be sure to post pictures of your conversion progress. I haven't converted any pipes like that one, sorta just went off into making my own, but I really like the shape of some of the tobacco pipes and may try my hand at a conversion like this soon.

I decided to hold off on making my own for the moment, but I did just order a Hammer and Kayfun clone to dip my toes in the world of pipe mods.

Hey all.. I have a freight train mods pipe on the way and I have a Russian 91% V2 that will get here end of Jan. My battery size will be the 18490. I have been using ego style cigs for a long time so what battery should I look at for the pipe? I like the AW branded ones however im just not sure if the max amp draw is good enough on those. I know the sony ones are something like 20 amps however I cant find them in the 18490 size. I find some aw imr batteries say high drain and others don't say high drain.. any help would be great
All AW IMR batteries are high drain. IMR batteries don't have protection built in to the battery, and are made with safer chemistry than Li-Po or Li-Ion batteries. What this means is that the battery won't catch fire or explode, but can still be ruined by draining it to low or by draining it too fast. These are the best type of batteries to use in a VV/VW type mod like the ProVari, because the mod has protection built into it.
Often 18490 and 18500 batteries are interchangeable. They are virtually the same size.
AW IMR Batteries: Ecigarette Batteries, ECig Batteries, Battery 18500
This is the battery you want to get. You don't need to order from them. It was just the first place I knew to look off the top of my head.

Buffalo, what's the pipe made of and what color did you get? Looks like a nice "take to work" pipe. I won't take my Dwarven anymore after someone trying to walk off with it while I was in the breakroom, my pinch goes and it fits in my pocket better.

Sorry for the late reply. Its definitely stainless steel. There is a aluminum tube inside the pipe head where the battery sits. Im guessing this made it easier to get threading for the button/top cap in place due to the shape of the pipe head.
I bought the red one but there are a bunch of colors and it looks just like the pictures.
Ive taken it out and about quite a bit. Works great.
I am concerned with the lack of vent holes. Not sure the space around the button is enough. Nevertheless I would NOT go sub 1ohm on this pipe. Ive done 1ohm, but now im running around 1.2 to 1.5ohms.

Thanks for the info, buffaloguy. Got one myself today, slapped a Protank II with a Walker short curved stem, and just love it, but dread taking it out in the cold. Been looking for a larger substitute for my trusty (and second) Smok chrome, one that I don't have to duck on the beach when the patrol comes by, or casually lower while driving in the presence of those who protect and serve. Still waiting for someone to put a side switch on an acrylic bowl where the thumb would rest traditionally...If mounted just over the stem it would be hard to misfire, IMHO.

I'm in the planning stages of my first DIY pipe. I have a limb from a cherry tree that I had to cut off the tree in my front yard. I'll split (rive?) out a block for the pipe body. The branch is about eight inches in diameter and about four feet long. lots of pipes in there!
I've got an electrical question for y'all.
I have a DSE618 pipe with an auto switch, and a Smok pipe with the manual switch. I much prefer the auto switch of the 618. I got to wondering if I could use parts from a 510 auto battery in a DIY pipe. Do you guys think that could work?
