I really like all the pipe talk. I figured I'd throw one in. Kinda simple.

Birds Eye maple E Pipe mod w/ a Bulli Smoker A2 and a Captivape tip.

I'm interested in converting pipes. As you've pointed out, there are some amazing pipes out there that aren't that expensive. I bought an EPipeMods pipe, and while I love it, $125 was a bit steep for me. It would be fun to make one. What all is in there? A button, a magnet, a keyring, a modified 510 connector and a Vapesafe2?

Someone who's a bit more handy aught to put up a DIY step by step. The Vapesafe2 and the button set you back $35.00, everything else is so cheap it hardly matters. Man... I want to covert this one:

$18 bucks, not bad at all.

Well the bowl has to be big enough to the battery, Vapesafe, electronics posts, etc. And the shank has to be big enough to support a 510 connector. It's not impossible to DIY one, but it is rather involved and requires quite a bit of skill. All in all I'd say Matt's prices are bad at all. It's just been awhile since he's put up a batch of freehands. For those that don't know, his freehands are the ones with shanks and more closely resemble a traditional pipe.

But also remember his freehand pipes are seldom under $300 and often much more. The simple addition of a shank should not increase prices that much. Some of the more exotic materials do help justify the pricing but when I see Mystical Fabrications turning out Mokume and Damascus pipes for under $200 I see there is a ton of room for growth in this industry in smaller shops.

Currently one of the biggest bottle necks is the availability of stems. I will be trying some pyrex tube stems when the hand is feeling better.

I am hoping some of the US modders will start looking at the pipes with an eye on converting them. There are tons of pipes out there made of wood other than briar that I am not sure I would have enjoyed as a tobacco pipe (pear wood?) but they are beautifully carved and would be awesome as e-pipes and the base price on them is very reasonable. Example... Turkish Hand Carved New Block MEERSCHAUM Pipe by OttomanArtShop
I would love to see a VV or VW chip added to a pipe as well. I know I will be pushing hard at Vape Bash to get modders thinking pipes.
would be awesome if someone was able to blow a glass pipe with metal fittings. i know nothing about glass blowing, but hope it could be accomplished with o-rings

The availability of stems isn't really that big of a hurdle for us. You, me, and a few others have already modded a few traditional stems to fit drip tips, universals, and such with only a few household implements. The only real hurdle is the equipment and skill involved in turning down a pipe bowl. Adding a shank does increase the skill level considerably, but most of the freehands with shanks lately have been very ornate or of very unique design.

Usual suspects here - 18350 Jazz, and just picked up 2 EPM's at Vapefest NY on Friday. I got my first mods after 4 months of vaping - a VMOD XL, Vamo and the Jazz, all in the same week. I love the VMOD for on-the-go, and like the Vamo for it's versatility, but I have zero interest in acquiring any other mods except pipes from here on out. I'm hooked! And they make all my NET's taste so much better :D It's funny because I was never a pipe smoker, and knew very little about tobacco. I finally quit smoking and now all I wanna do is vape epipes and learn about tobaccos.

I, too, find the stem situation to be kind of frustrating. There are very few options, but I've found a few places through pipepedia. There's also a lack of creative options for stands too, in my opinion.

Nice collection, Ab. I went through your gallery, killer stuff! Those Turkish amber stems are beautiful. I'd love to get my hands on some of those. Can you share some info? I'd be in for a little mini co-op too, if you'll be ordering again soon.

How 'bout you Dusty? Dirt cheap Italian-made stems? Bring it on!

Thanks for the modder links as well. It's nice to have more options. Those Sun Pipes are nice, but geez, seems like a blatant ripoff of the EPM switch. Mythical Fab has some crazy stuff going on too, though they don't particularly appeal to me.

Cheers guys.

Good find on the stems, Dusty. I've spent hours upon hours on ebay and didn't come up with JACK! Well, except for some overpriced re-sells of the stems I found and have been using. Pipemakers.org has a huge selection - all of which are very similar to the stems that the Italian is selling. I might grab a set from ebay, but with that shipping price and transit time, I may just stick with Pipemakers Emporium for the most part. What's cool about them is that you can but just one at a time of any design, any color, at basically the same price, $4-5/ea. Lucite and Vulcanite out the wazoo.

Those stands are decent too, but nothing out of the ordinary. Pretty much the same stuff I've seen on ebay and Pipes and Cigars.
