Patrick aides explore, then drop idea of new taxes on ‘e-cigarettes’ - Metro - The Boston Globe

Aides to Governor Deval Patrick have dropped an initiative for a tax on e-cigarettes after gauging the political appetite among lawmakers and finding it limited, legislative officials said.

Administration officials checked in recent weeks to find out whether members of the Legislature. who have shied from some of the tax hikes that Patrick has previously proposed, would go along with a levy on the devices, which offer an experience similar to smoking tobacco. The administration was considering including the tax in the budget Patrick will submit next week....

Score 1 for vapors! :)

It is apparent to me that the politicians who do, or will, when the time comes, support taxes on eCigs have no idea that by doing so they are doing actual harm to the very constituents that they claim to be helping.

A majority of the people on ECF were able to switch to vaping because they had enough expendable cash to support BOTH for as long as it took to stop smoking. Buying the start up gear and a supply of liquids (which we all go overboard with at first) isn't cheap. My first visit to a B&M was a cool $100. As we all know, some smokers spend $75 - $110 for a carton of cigarettes out of every paycheck. And some of them cannot afford another $40 for an eGo starter kit and some eLiquid. These people are forced to smoke cigarettes until they die because of government policies. If cigarettes were cheaper these folks might be able to get a carton of smokes AND an eCig in one paycheck. Then they can start a vaping hobby in the hope of forgetting the burning hobby. These people are doomed. They cannot choose to take the healthier choice.

The rest of us can afford to make our own choices. We can choose to vape regardless of how expensive they make it. We simply will refuse to let them force us back into the arms of big tobacco.

This is why ECF is sooooo great!!!

They have a PIF forum(pay-it-forward) section that will match up those unwanted items you may have and would like to donate to someone who may not be as fortunate as you or others.

Pay It Forward - PIF

my 2 cents

I have no doubt that taxes are on the way.

I spend about 1/3 to 1/4 what I used to spend on
cigarettes. Given that the cost of production of
cigarettes is quit low (I would guess maybe .30
per pack) this represents a major loss of revenue
for BG and BT. For me alone its got to be at least
$3000 grand per year.

Its going to be hard to tax e-cigs. The only
item that is not readily available is nic.
Well except for the Blu's types.

I like one of the comment in the article
here it is:

I have never smoked, and I have never tried an eCig, but three of my best friends that all smoked for over 20 years stopped smoking by switching to eCigs. It is wonderful not hearing them coughing wheezing all of the time. All I know is that they all say that they feel much better than they used to. I rode in a car for 5 hours with all 3 of them puffing away. All I could smell was a very weak, very light, pleasant grape smell. It was nice not having to stop for “smoke breaks” every 50 miles like usual. Time to get my Tia to try them. She’s been smoking for over 40. I hope they can help her not smoke.
I have supported the bans and taxes on cigarettes since they first started happening. The whole idea was to get people to stop smoking. If something helps people to stop smoking, why in the world would we want to make it more difficult or expensive for people who are trying to quit. Isn’t that what we have been trying to get them to do all along? eCigs should not be taxed if they can help people stop lighting cigarettes. I don’t think we need to regulate them either. If problems are found, then we might want to think about it, but if there aren’t any proven issues with them, then we should leave them alone. I do not think minors should use them, so prohibiting sale or use to minors under 18 would be okay.

I think this experience is happening to alot of people. Well I like to think it is : )
