Planning on getting a DNA20 or DNA30 to use with my KFL+ and Taifun...

Greetings all!

I currently have a KFL+ clone and a Taifun GT clone - both are excellent (haven't had a single leak with the Taifun and only one with the kayfun). I currently run both with 28 kanthal at 15 watts on my Innokin VTR. However, I do want better performance (more vapor with the Taifun, better flavor with the kayfun) and I have been reading up on both DNA20 and 30 kits. IF I am not mistaken, either would be a good choice for me, but I am still a bit confused about the coil setup - I am not running anything fancy - just a plain old microcoil at 1.7ohms with a cotton wick. Do I need to change up my setup in order to run higher wattage?

I did try 30 kanthal on my Kayfun (2.0ohms), but I am experiencing MAJOR dry hits at 15 watts and I can only imagine what it'd taste like at anything higher (yuck). On the subject of 30 kanthal, how can anyone successfully use it? It is way too springy for me to do any sort of microcoil and cannot compress the coil well.

Anyway, thanks for the help and information!

EDIT: I wrap my coils around a 3/32-inch drill bit - anything smaller and I have a hell of a time threading cotton through.

I had my kayfuns for a year and a half now and love them all. I run them on a variety of mods from mechs to provaris to dna-20's. my set ups range from 1.3 to 1.5 in my provari/ .8 to .9 in my mechs and in the 1 ohm range in my dna's. what I have found works the best in the dna mod is 2 coils, one is a 1 ohm twisted 30g coil, this can handle the full 20 watts because of the coils wick coverage. also I do a dual coil with twisted 32g at .9Ω, this also can handle the full 20 watts. in the 20 watt range I wouldn't use 30g at all and have only tried 28g at resistances to 1.5ish and feel like the twisted wires work better, as far as flavor I find the dual coil build has the best. as long as you have a fairly long coil there is no issues with dry hits. also on of my favorites is a 26g build in the dna-20, this is like 13 wraps and comes out to about 1.2Ω and is also an awesome set up. so it just depends on your type of vape, if you like a slower vape maybe the dual might work for ya, if you like a faster warmer vape maybe the 26g or just kind of middle road the twisted 30.
