Hi All,
Just learning how to build a coil. How does this one look? .8mm silica and 30awg kanthal on a Smoktech rda. It performs better than the stock coil (stock coil was terrible), but not nearly as well as the stock coil on my iGo L. I thought this coil looked decent, but was underwhelmed by the performance. Any comments/suggestions welcome :) Thanks!

how does it glow during a dry burn? what voltage/wattage are you vaping at?

you want the glow to start in the middle and gradually get even from the inside out. no super glowing hot spots.

you probably know this already, but 1.3Ω @ 3.7V is 11W and should be giving you a satisfying vape.

Starts in the middle, but the right side glows before the left side. I was actually vaping it at 3.3V, was thinking higher would get burned tasting like the Protank and eVod coils do at much more than 2V over ohms. I will give 3.7V a go :)
Thanks!

Well, if you're up for wrapping another, see what you get with the same number of wraps, but closer together. Say, 1/2 the total footprint. Make sure its directly above the air hole. I don't see a picture of the juiced up wick; so I can't say whether you should wrap a bit tighter or not. I think, if you wrap it with a round toothpick in the bundle, and wrap real tight, then slide out the toothpick, that would be about right.

Can't tell for sure from your posted pics but maybe the right or left side is too close to the posts? Actually I get 1.1-1.3 ohm about every wrap and it does great for my tastes at this point, and I use the same size wire. As pbid suggested you might want to get the coil a little tighter, or try a wrap or two fewer. What voltage are you pushing through that mod?

youve got the right idea: clean builds. the silica could be wrapped a bit more tight so theres full contact with the silica. if you want more clouds, you have to increase the surface area of wire/silica.

3mm silica folded 3 times, 28g kanthal, 7-8 wraps should get you to 1.7-1.9 ohms. wrap it tight but not super tight that the wire starts cutting into the silica. more wire surface contact with the silica should make a bit more vapor. hope that helps
