Please help a noob pick an ecigarette!

Maybe you can sympathize: You've smoked a long time, you want to stop, you've tried eCigs in the past with no success, and then you find an eCig that does it for you. With a tenuous grip on a tobacco-free lifestyle, you're afraid to mess with it too much even if it's expensive.

The unsuccessful eCigs in the past were all Volcano products. The successful one, believe it or not, is an njoy disposable.

This njoy habit costs about twice as much as the Marlboro habit it replaced, and while feeling this good is worth it, money is probably being wasted.

In the past, requests for help have been met with unhelpful jargon. Something called 'cartomizers' are recommended. Battery sizes are discussed. A sea of different products. And I'm invariably called a noob a dozen times.

So, anyway, please help: I like the NJOY Menthol Bold, and I would like a reusable eCig/juice combo that's comparable (I hear the NJOY reusable eCigs aren't very good). I'd like a long battery life so it doesn't run out partway through the day. I don't care if it's pricey (the most expensive option is likely to be less than what I've got going on now). I also don't want to get bogged down in options. What would work for the majority of people with my stated preferences?

Thank you so much. I'm excited to be off the cigarettes, but I'm totally lost.

The eRoll has been getting good reviews lately. What's your budget?

And, I'll warn you now, you're about to get a flood of posts by people listing their faves. It's going to get even more overwhelming - but you won't be called a noob, you're just about to get killed by kindness and helpfulness. :)

But it's okay. Take it a step at a time at YOUR comfort level, and price range. The good news is a lot of the starter stuff isn't expensive, and you can still use it if you upgrade later, or pass it along to someone else.

So yeah, take a look at the eRoll, what do you think? Let's start there!

Hi! I'm fairly new to vaping myself. I did try the Njoy a while back to help me quit smoking. Didn't work for me at all. Then I was gifted some little eGo's and a trip to the local vape store. WOW! I didn't plan on quitting smoking, didn't think I could. But after finding my favorite juice, I just quit cigarettes without even trying. I started at 18 mg of nicotine and am now down to 6 and even zero. I would advise a trip to a real vape store, not just a tobacco store that sells vaping stuff on the side. You'll be able to ask questions and even try different juices. Good luck!

Maybe Baditude can help some, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-carto-tank-what-guide-juice-attachments.html

Here is another one from Baditude, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-up-vaping-ladder-egos-mods.html#comment10073

Here is another link that helps to explain the jargon. Taste Your Juice | VAPER’S GLOSSARY

Once you know what people are talking about it makes it easier, also certain words in peoples post will give a brief explanation when you hover you mouse over them, hover over the word heads it should give a summary of what that means.

A good starting setup would be two variable Voltage batteries(ego twist, or vision spinner). The higher the "mah" on the battery, the longer you can go between charges. I started with two vision 1300 mah spinners. For tanks, I use vivi novas....easy to fill, easy to clean, easy to switch out atomizer heads. With the 1.8 ohm heads, I vape at or close to 3.7 volts... Different juices have different sweet spots. The start up cost might match a ppd analog habit(depending on your local) but it is oh so much better. Welcome to ECF. Have fun with your vaping journey. This is a great place to learn & research. :)

I tried the Blu about 3 years ago. Seemed ok but the carts died out quickly. Tried some other off brand ecig from a gas station and it was horrid. Fast forward to 2014 and a 2 pack a day habit since 2008...I stopped in thevaporcompany to give it another go. They offered me another "blu style" stater ecig...free of charge. It was alright but i knew I needed more "pull" of it. I quickly got an ego style setup. Had decent pull but kept getting the harsh burnt/dry drags from it. I purchased a new tank/cartomizer and its been hitting real good! 1 week and 1 day without any tobacco! Hopefully I can stay that way!

To start:
"ego twist style battery" made by either Vision, Kanger, or Joyetech (Joye) $20. -this is a small rechargeable variable voltage unit. Buy two so you have a back-up when one is charging.

"clearomiser" made by either Vision, Kanger, Smok Tech, or Innokin. - they're all pretty good and cheap $3-$10. They're made of plastic, some have replaceable coils $1-$2. I would recommend a "vivi-nova" clearomiser by Vision. They have replaceable heads, and hold a lot of juice. You'll get good vapor production and they're easy to use. One coil may last you a week or more.

As you progress:
Buy a Variable voltage / wattage device. I would reccomend an iTaste MVP unit $50, but there's a lot to chose from.
Buy a Kanger pro-tank clearomiser $12. They're made of glass and stainless. They'e cheap and will work on your ego battery unit. Replacement coils come in 1.8 -2.4 ohm resistance $1.50. The lower the ohm, the more vapor you get.

As you become a pro:
Buy a Kayfun RBA. $20 clone $100 real thing. - This is a "rebuild-able atomizer" You make your own coils using kanthal wire and cotton wick. It has a tank to hold liquid. The flavor and vapor are superior.
Buy an "RDA" $15 -This is a rebuildable dripping atomizer. You dripp liquid into it as you vape. It's a good way to practice building coils. I would recommend the iGo-L RDA.
Buy a "Mechanical mod" $20-$300, a simple battery and switch device that uses standard lithium ion rechargeable batteries.

I wish there was a simpler way to convey this informaiton, but it really only comes with hours of research on google and this forum.

You'll want a variable voltage device. Or, for even less fuss, a variable watt device. With a variable watt, you set the device to the type of hit you want, and even if you change coils (heating element that turns e liquid into vaper) or tanks/clearomisers, the device will adjust itself to make a similar hit despite the different topper. To get a variable watts device in a smaller form factor, take a look at the iTaste VV v3.

For a topper, if you enjoy Njoys, you'll probably like a cartomizer. That is basically the same thing that stores and heats up the eliquid in a disposable Njoy. To make that cartomizer last as long as possible, you can punch two holes in it, and put it in a glass tank filled with eliquid. The holes will allow the liquid into the cartomizer to keep it moist. They last much longer this way. These types of tanks are called cartomizer tanks. I get mine from IBTanked. While some say this is more of an advanced vapers product, I find it to be simpler then clearomisers. You prime a blank cartomizer by dripping in your juice of choice. Then use a tank filling tool to help install it into the tank. Fill the tank and place a drip tip (mouth piece) on the cartoniser. Vape on, anf refill the tank when necessary until the cart leaks or delivers a burnt taste. Clearos seem to require a but of tinkering, and IMHO deliver a muted taste.

I have to second the Evod starter kit. I've had no problems with my kit at all. I got the stainless steel version and I think it looks pretty sweet. The kit batteries last well over a day for me and charge in around a hour with the kit charger. It is a simple kit to use and keep useable. The heads are recoilable if you feel comfortable doing something like that.
I also have to second the 1300 Vision Spinners. Both the two I received have given me no problems so far. They last twice as long as the kit batteries but take much longer to charge. They have allowed me to custom tailor the flavor of the jucies I've tried.

Hope this helps,
Will

Hey augieoggie welcome to the forum! I understand what your looking for. For longer life you will need to move up from the njoys cigarette size - to a larger cigar size setup. These are known as 'egos' they have male(510) threads, and female(ego)threads. The njoy battery is probably 90- 150mah (milliamp hours) ~ 1- 1.5 hrs run time, the small cigar sized ego is a 650 mah or 6.5 hrs run time. And more power for better vapor. These have a button to push to vape, this is really the best starter battery to have. You should get 2 of them because you need to have 2 of everything. So you always have one ready.

When people say evod kit they are speaking of a brand of an ego 650 battery with a atomizer tank system called an evod... It works exceptionally well. You will fill it with juice manually from a bottle. And unscrew and change the coil every 4-7 days. Very economical compared to what your using.

The eroll is a 90 mah battery, do you want to be charging all day long or only once? There are cig like sizes going up to 350mah I believe but still that's no enough IMO. With a pair of 650 battery's you can make it all day. You can get a 'evod' starter kit with 2 batteries, 2 evod tanks, charger, and a pack of coil heads for under 50.00

I'm thinking carto's for you. IBTanked, and boge cartos. Figureing out what eliquids you like is the tricky part for you alone to do.

People on a tighter budget usually opt for a clearomizer- I recommend the miniprotank2; and they clean the atomizer head to get most lifetime out of them - or rebuild them with kanthal wire.

This is great advice.... It is easy to get overwhelmed when you are curious and/or skeptical on where to start.... I started with cig a likes and decided I needed a bigger battery and stronger throat hit....what i did was hit youtube and searched "vaping for beginners"

That was an easy way for me to comprehend what was what.... Following the advice above will be a cheap initial outlay for you to decide if it's for you
I wish you Good Luck and remember that every cigarette dodged is a win

I'll give another vote for an Evod kit.

Here is a good 2 battery kit with extra coil heads.

Kanger EVOD eGo Full Kit - Vaping Me

Here is a single kit.

Katana Kit

You will have to add juice...sorry I'm not a menthol person so can't help there.

I just ordered the Evod Kanger as a backup. Great price. And if you use the code ECF at checkout you get 10% off, also free shipping over $30.00.

I am a little backwards of most on here. I started with a vv 900 mah battery with a Ismoka tank from a local B&M. that got me off the cigs that I had been smoking for 38 years! Loved it so much I went and ordered a Provari mini, loved that even more! Now the real world part kicked in. The weather around here had been bad so all my vaping was during the day at work or at night in front of the TV. The weather has gotten better or maybe I have cabin fever but being out and about, either running errands or working outside, or being with friends and family, carrying around one of these larger devices was causing me problems. I just ordered the Joyetech Eroll after doing numerous searches on it and watching dozens of you tube shows. I really feel that this will be my new out and about solution. I will keep the provari next to my easy chair for the evenings but having a little box in my shirt pocket for the day will really keep me off the analogs I feel. Search you tube for the reviews and decide for your self. Remember breaking the physical addiction to analogs is only part of the battle, the hard part for me was the physical side to it, just stepping outside to have a cig in the morning has been my routine forever! Good luck to you!

The eRoll has been getting good reviews lately.

I second that ... :D

For me, the eRoll battery issue (short charge life) is mitigated by the PCC, and I like the size and stealth potential ...

With a strong, high nic juice, it hits as hard as the NJOY Bold, for a LOT less cost ...

I found the NJOY Menthol a bit too minty, there are many menthol juices that taste better ...

I absolutely agree with you about the physical part "rituals and habits" when it comes to switching from cigarettes to e smoking. I think that's probably the reason lots of folks are not successful with patches and gum. A lot of the "hand to mouth" actions are just missing.

I got a Blu starter kit a couple of weeks ago, and used it for a few days. It worked well enough that I knew vaping would let me give up cigarettes, but the small batteries were a total pain. I got an ego kit and I've been thrilled with it. No cigarettes since I started this. It's been so painless I can't believe it.

I do plan to keep my Blu kit for taking with me when I go places that putting a large device in my mouth and puffing would get strange looks. That is a lot of places in the state where I live. Even though I live in the Big City, people are very conservative here.

The Elips, specifically the LSK-T. It uses special disposable carto tanks that will set you back about four bucks a pop, but last longer than CE4s or their equivalent. I've been using the same one for about three weeks and it is still going strong. Plus it's small, very discreet. Offers great vapor production. A kit with two batteries and two tanks set me back about 35 US Dollars at a local shop.
