I've seen a few videos showing not all 18650 batteries fit in the lava tube. I NEED to know whats the best protected battery i can use in this mod..a few examples would be fantastic. It came with the AW 18650 3.7V 1600mAh..its red and unprotected i believe. This is my 1st PV of any type and i love it, I'm was just thinking now of getting a 2nd battery so i can be constantly vaping while one is charging..and id like to get the best battery i can get...or close to it depending on the price.

any help with this matter is greatly apreciated, thank u so much for taking some time to read my post.

AW IMR is the only type out there that'll work well on the Lavatube or Provari. That has to do with that on high voltage use it's easy to overload the protection on a protected battery and trip out the battery. IMR's are the only type of battery that's 'high drain and able to provide the amperage for this type of thing.

There might be other brands of IMR but I just don't know of any.

I bought 4 of the AW IMR 2000mah from Super T. The end cap will screw on the complete length of the threads. However, because they are button top batteries, there is approx. a 1/32 inch gap left at the end cap. I found an o-ring at Lowes that filled the slight gap but it really isn't necessary. It's more for looks than anything else.

Best battery for Lavatube is the 2250mah Panasonic CGR18650CH. It beat the pants off of the AW IMR in terms of capacity, discharge rates and tests of heating under shorting conditions. When shorted, the Panasonic maxed out at 185 degrees, compared with 235 degrees for the AW.

You can get them for $9.99 and free shipping at Orbtronic.com. Smartvapes also sells them for $7.99 plus shipping, but they're out of stock there.

The Panasonic should make the over-priced and often counterfeited AW sit up and take notice. There's a new kid on the block. You can see a detailed discussion of this battery, including links to graphs and videos on the Lavatube forum.
