I have been vaping since July 2013 and I am really into it and my wife was happy to see me kick the habit but now whe thinks that I just replace one bad habit with another. She is glad I do not smell like a bum and not spending $30 a week on smoking but she still has issues with me vaping. She swears it's still just as bad and won't let me vape in the house (which I do if she's not home hehe). My cousins husband opened up a shop down the street from my house, which is where I get my liquid from, and I get it free because I do graphic work for them and I'm building their website and she still manages to find an issue with me doing it. I have showed her articles, videos, news clips, just about anything I can find that supports it but she will not budge. She has recently eased up since I have been so passionate about it and have talked to her about mixing my own liquids but I want her to be on board 100%. Has anyone ran into any static from loved ones for vaping and were able to convince them it is safe. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Get rid of her. Get you a hot girlfriend who vapes.

Problem solved. You are welcome.

Well, as a woman, I'd say if you can swing it, spend the $30 a week you used to spend on cigs toward something for her (flowers, a nice meal, manicure gift card, you get my drift). If she still doesn't appreciate that, then tell her you'll gladly switch back to analogs. Take my advice for what it's worth (not much, from the price you paid for it, lol).

But anyway, of course we don't know your specific relationship dynamics, but it seems to me that there's not a true, honest dialog here. She "says" vaping is no different than smoking, but she also expresses her appreciation for the "smoke/bum free" husband. And I'm guessing you're breathing easier/coughing less. I'm sure she sees that, too. I don't know your wife, but many people with strong prejudices about any number of things can never be convinced by logic/data. It's an emotional attachment. Focus on that. Appeal to her emotions.

Show her how vaping makes you a better husband. That's why I suggested making sure you pay a little extra attention to your sweetie in small ways. Positive reinforcement, ya know? Like Pavlov's dog (not your wife, lol--the idea that you vaping/not smoking=extra attention for mama from a better man--YOU!) Good luck!

Lol 2 weeks ago I said "you keep complaining about me vaping I might as well go back to smoking cigs." I was so ...... that she's been so unsupportive that I went to the store and bought a pack of Newport. Lit one up took a couple drags and almost threw up. I can't go back to analogs if I wanted to.

I suspect part of the thing is, because the ecig systems are still relatively new and inadequate and under development, it is an absorbing hobby because really most of us are still hunting down something... its like with smokeing we found something we could settle on - maybe not necessarily something we were happy with but the best compromise for what was available... and now with the development of ecigs, a whole new world has started opening up and the industry isn't going to settle down for years by the looks of it.

Ok its hard to convince someone of how much less harmful vapor is versus cigs; they have been conditioned to believe that anything 'smoke like' is the same as smoking tobacco.

I typically never claim vaping is safe, but compared to smoking tobacco its a hell of a lot less harmful.

Whats IN tobacco smoke? Do you want to go there?

CDC - 2010 Surgeon General's Report - Chemicals in Tobacco Smoke - Smoking & Tobacco Use

Tobacco smoke contains a deadly mix of more than 7,000 chemicals. Hundreds are toxic. About 70 can cause cancer. Here are some of the chemicals.

Cancer-Causing Chemicals
Formaldehyde: Used to embalm dead bodies
Benzene: Found in gasoline
Polonium 210: Radioactive and very toxic
Vinyl chloride: Used to make pipes

Toxic Metals
Chromium: Used to make steel
Arsenic: Used in pesticides
Lead: Once used in paint
Cadmium: Used to make batteries

Poison Gases
Carbon monoxide: Found in car exhausts
Hydrogen cyanide: Used in chemical weapons
Ammonia: Used in household cleaners
Butane: Used in lighter fluid
Toluene: Found in paint thinners

In juice?

VG
PG
Nicotine
flavorings

I dont expect someone I dont know (and that doesnt know me) to just make the quantum leap to conclude that vaping is a lot less awful than cigs, but ....compare those lists.

The Polonium-210 isnt a joke, its IN cigs. It decays into Radon too, from what I've read. Its seriously bad stuff. Tobacco smoke is hydroscopic; it absorbs moisture in the lungs and sticks there. Couple that with the radioactivity and...well, no wonder folks get sick from it. And thats not even taking into consideration all the other crap in the mix!

I vaguely remember mine saying something the last time we were in Macon.....I was driving, saw the vape shoppe....went in and tried some juices.....told the very nice lady I wanted 2 bottles and a 5 pack of carts.

Thats when I think she said something.

We've been married 25 years, I was chain smoking when I met her....I chain vape.....

Anyway, back to the story.....

About 10 years ago she started beating me up about any money I spent..... I kinda quit listening......Afterall, I put the money in the bank every 2 weeks.....

So last week I think she did say something. However, I know we had just sat down and paid all of the bills.....there was a difficulty getting the 24pack of beer in the fridge because of all of the food in it and the power was still on so I didnt hear her.

And thats my story AND I'm sticking too it.

Only way she is going to condone your "hobby/habit" is if she vapes too. But unfortunately it seems as she doesnt. But on to greener pastures... If you quit this and start another hobby ehhh RC Airplanes, Hi power rocketry, Scuba Diving, whatever... I will bet you hear about that too.... human nature I suppose, always going to fuss no matter what you do....

since I'm a grown adult (and old at that) I don't care what others think. my so made a face once when entering the room I was vaping in. I just said "well, you are never happy are you" no more faces and he probably knows better than to comment. he is not my boss or my daddy.
he has hobbies/habits that drive me crazy, but I live with them silently because, well, I am not his boss or mommy and if it's not hurting anyone......<shrug>
I do love being old, I care less and less what anybody thinks of me :)

All I can say is I'm glad I'm divorced. LOL! I was and have been crazy over vaping for almost 3 years now. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to try and sneak and hide my obsession. I don't believe I could do it. I've never been good at lieing or sneaking. I'm 50 years old and my mom and older brothers, sisters-in-law, etc., are happy that I no longer smoke and they also accept that I use an ecig (Provari with RDA) around them. Although I know they probably look at it and have a hard time understanding it, even though all of them used to smoke but have quit smoking altogether. Honestly though, I'm at the point that I just don't care and have to do what I have to do. I know being married isn't as easy though. I feel for ya, man. Best of luck to you! I don't know if you can get someone to be on board 100% if they just aren't.

Amen MiamiMom..... But seriously... Tell her you want to live to a ripe old age with her... With cigarettes, that would be highly unlikely. Good luck to you! :toast:
