I'm am VERY new to vaping. I've been smoking a pack a day for years and I recently got a juul. I like it but it seems inconsistent and the pods definitely don't seem like the most affordable option so I wanted to try something nicer. The shop I went to wasn't very helpful in addressing my personal needs so I just kind of ended up with an Orion dna and not a lot of guidance.
I immediately HATED it. I got some peachy rings flavor in the nic salt and I thought that was the issue but I tried a couple of other flavors and they aren't really helping. No matter what the flavor is just way too much. The juul's flavor tastes way more discreet to me.
I want to quit smoking for good and ideally I would like to make the Orion work for me now that I'm stuck with it. I tried adjusting the airflow but no matter what the flavor is just way too intense and it feels like all of the flavors have the same gross after taste. First I tried the .5 cartridge and now I have the .25. I set up escribe but I am incredibly overwhelmed with all of the settings and terminology and I just don't understand any of it.

Perhaps adjusting the settings on escribe could help? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

by way too much, do you many the flavor is too strong or that it's too airy of a draw or ?

if you just got it, try to take it back to the shop for a return or exchange

since it's an aio, there's not much you can really do to change the way that it works....

after filling the cartridge are you letting it set for 5 minutes or more before taking the first vape?

are all the juice you trying the same brand? Try another brand? Try another shop....

The flavor is too much. I ordered a flavor that definitely isn't as intense. But something about it is still just very unpleasant. It's hard to explain, it just feels like the flavor is filling my mouth and I just want to stop so I don't even get to the point where I can appreciate the throat hit.
It's definitely possible that I have to adjust because it's so different from smoking. But is the orion significantly different from the juul? Maybe I'm not inhaling properly at all? Honestly I've been trying to watch videos and read articles to understand vaping better but they use so many terms that I don't understand.

Interesting. Few people complain about too much flavor. I can see it though. There are advantages to less flavoring in a juice. It vapes cleaner and the coils last longer for one. If the nic level is also too high for you the simplest thing to do is cut it with some USP food grade VG from almost any drug store. This will reduce the nic level though. There are ways to raise the nic level back up.

as for the full mouth feeling, it could be that the airflow is too open, if it has airflow control, try closing it off and then slowly opening it to where it's comfortable for you

i haven't used either so can't really help but yes everything vapes a bit different.... the juul is made more for mtl (mouth to lung, taking the vape into your mouth before inhaling to lungs) whereas the orion may be more for dl (direct lung)

if the juice tastes peppery then your nic is too high and need to lower it

The orion is made for restricted direct lung hits more so than mtl hits. I used my orion as a mtl device when I first got it and was never satisfied with it.

I ended up using the .25 pods instead of the .5 pods and dialing back the wattage and warmth. Started using it as a direct lung device and it more or less replaced all my other gear.

I find it a bit interesting that the flavor is too intense as well, the Orion to me seems to mute a lot of the flavors I vape.

It could be more of a juice problem, a large portion of store bought juice have a lot of flavorings and sweeteners that for some can be unpleasent.

just buy an AIO kit instead of the Juul, you will be able to choose your own flavors or even create them.
I just stopped smoking 2 months ago, also after smoking a pack per day for around 15 years. I did it with the Joyetech Exceed, easy AIO kit with the choice to smoke mouth to long or direct to lung.

Or if you are more a Pod type of person, go for the Smok Nord.

It's very early stages for you I know, but I'd suggest a couple of things - firstly maybe look for a less flavoured juice or one with less sweetness anyway (Tea? Lemon? Gold and Silver - available in most of Europe, supposed to taste like mild Brit Tobacco but it doesn't) - secondly as has been suggested try diluting your juice with VG ( Glycerine from a chemist will do with about 10% distilled water added to it ) - and finally maybe consider making your own unflavoured juice - a lot of us on here do that and it really isn't too difficult ... plenty of advice on that in the DIY section here.

You might also want to think about a smaller easy carry mod and a tank as an alternative. iStick 30ws have been around a while but are still good, and easy to use, as are the original Nautilus Minis and GS Air tanks.

All the best and well done you so far with your decision to stop smoking!

I'm very new to vaping as well, close to 2 months off cigs now. I started with a pod system and quickly moved to a mod. I'm using the Innokin Kroma Zenith (its a mouth to lung tank) and I have no complaints at all. Coils cost me around $2.50, and they've been lasting me for 2+ weeks. In the interest of saving money, I would suggest you find a mod and a tank for your preferred style of vaping (MTL/DTL).

For the flavors? I'm in the same boat as you .. I cannot for the life of me find something I can vape all day that I am happy with, or don't get sick of. A few here have suggested going the DIY route (thanks @IDJoel & @jandrew !), vaping unflavored (with nic) most of the time, and only vaping flavors every so often ... and to me, it seems like the best choice #1 Insanely cheap #2 I can add flavorings in as little or as much strength as I want. I've ordered 1000ml of PG and VG along with some nicotine and flavorings for around $70CAD ... that will last me months and months and months.

As for quitting cigs, you just gotta resist that urge to buy the next pack of smokes and stick with the vape. I was apprehensive when I did it, but I'm so :censored:'ing glad I did.

Did you tell them you were trying to quit smoking? I'm surprised they suggested the Orion. It's pretty intense and takes getting used to. Going down in the nicotine level might help. I have the Orion Quest, but it wasn't for me. If you want something inexpensive you should go with something that takes a coil like the Smok Nord.
Smok nord is that weird little triangular thing right? Not sure that would be a ton of help. The Orion is not MTL like a cigarette though. It’s more like an RDL. As a result it will produce more “smoke” than a regular cigarette.

If you want to change your device and your situation is:
“I just want the best quality vape and I don’t care what shape it comes in”
One good option for you could be a zenith-kroma-A kit. It’s shaped like a traditional vaping device, but it’s got a low continuing cost high quality experience, and the battery lasts a long time. Vape shops are less likely to carry them but they can be had easily online. It’s button only though, so if you want something draw activated it won’t do that.

For finding something draw activated I suggest looking in Vape Pod Systems many of the different available pod systems are discussed there.
