Whoa!! With all due respect to deadcat, I thought I made fairly clear (clear enough at least) what I was looking for. I intend to use heavily, which I thought (mistakenly) implied that I smoke analogs heavily.

I don't care AT ALL about it looking like a cig, but would prefer not carry around something too much larger. I'm looking for a nicotine delivery system that is not cigarettes or chew.

My primary concern is RELIABILITY. I don't care at all if I have to push a button. I've cruised quite a few threads now and it seems that I've had more recommendations for the 510 than anything else and I feel fairly confident these rec's were made in good faith. I believe I'm going to go with that one.

HOWEVER, I do have one more stupid newb question that I can't seem to find the answer to around here: Manual batt v. Automatic batt? What the hell is the difference?!? Probably vap 101, but I still don't know.

Anyway, thanks to ALL of you for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

I love my 510. I use manual and auto batts. The manuals are def the way to go because you control the vapor/ no shut off and you can drip them without a problem. Auto's have a couple of issues, they have a 5 sec limit and then you have to wait a min or two before you can use them again, and if you drip you can flood them. They have sensitive switches that turn on in loud noise/motion/wind, and the switches can get stuck on, burning out your atty. I like the manual better but I use the auto when just chilling and don't want to press the button every time I want a drag. Enjoy and I hope I helped.;)

A manual battery allows you to control how warm you want the vapor to be by allowing you to heat the atomizer as long as you want. With the auto battery that is activated as you inhale, it has a cut-off that kills the power from the battery after a few seconds. Thus you have to take at least one "primer puff" to get the battery going and then take a second quick puff before the battery cuts off. If ANY liquid gets into the battery from the atomzier (which it will since they cannot be sealed), it will kill your battery and you have to buy a new one. With a manual battery you have none of those limitations or issue and you can drip liquid directly on the atomizer for better vapor with no concern.

If you don't mind that your PV doesn't look just like an analog, then I would suggest you consider several of the premiere devices that provide 5 or 6 volts of power and long battery life. Plus the batteries only cost $2 to replace instead of $13-$20 to replace for the ciggy type PV. Two that I know will last longer than any other's that I have seen are the Prodigy and the GG. I have heard that the Silver Bullet is also available in a 6 volt configuration but I have never personally used one. Here are a couple of links:

Prodigy: PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!!
GG: THE GG

Based on your answers I'd probably recommend the Janty Stick.

Thanks for that info. I'm new to this (just under two weeks) and have a 901 with automatic battery. For some reason, about 20 years ago my tongue became very sensitive to heat and to spicy foods. Now that I've been vaping, I've found that when I smoke a 'real' cigarette the smoke's heat bothers the tip of my tongue.

I DON'T do the primer puff/one quick puff - I use the long slow draw to get a lot of vapor.

So for me, I'll probably stick to the automatic batteries for my 901.

I started with the auto 901 and if that works for you, that is great. :) You are more of the exception than the rule, however. Most users are looking for consistent throat hit which the amount of vapor has no relation to. That's why the majority prefer manual batteries. And more and more members are moving to the 5 & 6 volt devices to get the best throat hit combined with 6-8 hour battery life.

But if you are a light smoker/vaper, an auto 901 could easily be all you need. Just be careful to not get any liquid near the battery compartment because that will kill your battery eventually.
