please HELP! - trouble w/ refilled carts

I just got my first DIY kit this weekend.
I have no issues with mixing - cutting the nic w/ pg and adding flavor.
Using: 36mg nic juice 50%PG/ 50%VG
PG to dilute to desired nicotine strength
flavors from the 'One Stop DIY Shop'
used V4L cartomizers

I'm using old carts... just weren't producing vapor any more, but seemed like they would still work if they had juice.

I am using the condom method (depending on the cart, 15-25 drops, plus or minus, can fit into an empty cart) and the taryn spin to refill the carts and this is working just fine.... totally excited that i could do it btw!

Here's my issue: the refilled carts are vaping perfect after i refill them, however do not last nearly as long as the original cart did. I could vape a new cart for maybe 3 or 4 days, depending on usage pattern. The refilled carts are maybe lasting me a day (if that) with the same usage pattern.

Am i doing something wrong or is this normal?
Should I try something else that would make them last longer?
Is it just because I'm reusing carts?
I feel so lost, please help!

I think 1 cartomizer burned on the inside after i refilled and vaped it for almost a full day. after i refilled it, it vaped with a hot spot on the cart and this evening i was vaping it and tasted/ smelled nasty burned stuff - i chucked it, cause it was that nasty!

My refilled carts don't last as long either but it seems to help when I dry them completely with the rice method. What you do is wash and dry them like you normally would then stick them in a bag with uncooked rice for a day. It gets all the moisture out and fluffs up the filler. Works great. Then when I refill them I pop the top off and drip straight onto the filler and let it sit for a few minutes.

Yeah, I second what glowgirl said about the rice, it does help alot after washing. I boil twice like Nilus shows in his one how-to videos, and then bury them in a tupperware container of white rice overnight.

I've been dripping of sorts too with my cartos - As soon as I notice the hit feeling a little 'off', I'll pop the cap off and drop 5 drops or so in, recap and continue on. Works great at home, but when I'm out and about I just make sure I have a bunch of cartos onhand. Keeping them moist will cut down on them scorching inside too. (that nasty smell/flavor that you got on the one you tossed)

I found that the taryn spin also packs the filler down where it's denser and keeps the juice from migrating as well after while. try just a tiny taryn reverse or thermometer shake to get the juice up off the bottom. I'm going to loosen the filler and go back to dripping the juice in.
