Throat hit results from heat and nicotine. The container shouldn't affect that UNLESS the ohms on the coils are different than what you were using. eVods, unfortunately (from most vendors*), are loaded with the 2.4-2.6 Ω coils that actually meter our closer to 2.8. If you're joye attys were standard resistance then the should have been 2.2 (sometimes 2.3) ohms and that could make a difference.
Also, bottom coil clearos like the evod and mini protank, T3, etc. can tend to vape cooler than top coils because the coil is 'sitting' in the eliquid most of the time, but you also mentioned the CE4 which is a top coil clearo where you can get dry (hot) hits when the eliquid is out of the wicking or the wicking isn't keeping up with the vaping...... so I'm thinking it's total wattage - assuming you're using the same eliquid in comparison.
Most people go to clearos to avoid the filler in the cartridges or cartomizers, but if that isn't bothering you, then you might try the Joye eGo 'Mega' carts here:

.. and the matching atty:

They hold 3ml of ejuice.
And if you happened to get the higher resistance coil on the evod, then you may want to try the Kanger T3 or T3S which also holds 3ml of eliquid and get the 1.8 ohm coil. You can get the 'Tabac BCC' (aka the T3) with the 1.8ohm coil in the unit here:
eGo 3ml Tabac BCC (Bottom Coil Changeable) Clearomizer
*good prophets and heaven gifts T3's/tabac and evods Come with the 1.8 ohm coil. Of course you can get other replaceable coils - suggest the 2.2ohm for lighter flavors....
