Hi, I'm brand new to this whole E-Cig thing. After waiting for 3 weeks I finally recieved my Joye 510 today. I'm definitely enjoying it but get the feeling I'm doing something terribly wrong. The device came with 4 pre-filled carts. After only a couple drags the vapor starts to taste burnt. Ready around it appears I should clean the atomizer or perhaps drip directly onto the atomizer. As the unit is brand new I don't think cleaning is the solution. Dripping directly on to the atomizer works... for a while. Then its back to the burnt taste. How ofter should I be dripping onto the atomizer? The cart still has liquid in it so I know it's not that. Can I refill the pre-filled cartridge? What type of material should I use to replace it when its used up? Yes, I have been doing research but come to many different answers, and I'd like to hear some of your guys' opinions! Thank you for reading and to whomever responds.

I don't know too much about the Joye that you have but I know with my 3 piece DSE 901, the included cartridge and atomizer weren't full of juice. They were barely wet, and the actual cartridge didn't even have any wicking or stuffing. Maybe yours is the same way and your couple drops on the atomizeris all that's available. I'm sure some one with much more knowledge will chime in soon but for now check that out.

I have only been a dripper... The 510 is a good atty- shouldn't be in the cleaning.. when you drip in the atty... only drip one or two drops.. since I don't use pre-fills.. I am going to give you my perception by filling my addys.

I drip three drops into my cart and two on my atty.. If it initially gurgles.. I know my batt is a little low so , I only drip three in the cart.

By doing this, it last about as long as one to one and a half cigs.... about 12 to 14 drags.

If your bridge in the atty is dry .. you will get that burnt taste. If you have been dripping for a while, know that you are getting a full charge from a fresh battery and still get the gurle... then, you need to run your bridge dry by not dripping on it.. and running the batt on it for a few draggs until it is good and dry- blow it out real good( you can just blow through it with your mouth).. and this should clear it out so it fully evaps at the coil and doesn't overevaporate past the bridge.

Thats my $0.02 worth.. hope it helps..

901 comes with a dummy cart installed.. you have to replace that with one from the box of carts... which should have the fill in them.

Welcome to the forum.

Drip the liquid onto the bridge of the atty. Be careful not to miss.

Yes you can refill empty carts. The material that comes with the carts is called polyfill I think. It's not very efficient at wicking liquid to the atty. When I was using it I would get 8 to 10 good drags before having to top it off with a couple of drops of liquid. Otherwise I would get the burnt taste you describe. It is important that the bridge of the atty always has liquid on it so top off your cartridge it starts to taste burnt.

Your 510 will perform best when the atty has been broken in after a day or two of use.

Try any filler material and method that you find on this forum. Your results will vary but most if not all of the methods wick juice to the atty better than the stock polyfill and they're all inexpensive to try. Right now I'm using the PTB mod and while I'm not completely sold on it it's way better than the poly.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks for the fast replys! Yes, I bought some juice and have been dripping on the atomizer. It appears to be the only thing that takes away that burnt taste. From watching different videos and reading different posts I didn't know how long I should do this. Some people say that one full cart will last you 10 cigs worth of analogs. I get nowhere near this and find myself having to top off even when the cart filler is fairly moist. So topping off all every 8 drags is normal practice?

Same thing happened to me about a three days into having my 510. A couple points I'll add that fixed it for me. First off once this happens remove your cartridge and smell it. You'll notice that that burnt flavor has now polluted your filler and cartridges as well as atomizer. Dripping takes it away temporarily but then your back down to the polluted junk. Here's what fixed the problem for me:

1)Don't just blow out the atomizer it needs a thorough draining to get rid of the "yuck". To do this twist a paper towel up and push gently into the atomizer till it touches the wick. Leave it to sit over night with atomizer up, paper towel down (draining position). If you want it done in a hurry replace paper towel every 5-10 minutes until you pull out a paper towel that is perfectly dry. Your atomizer is now completely drained. IMPORTANT: Add 5 drops directly to atomizer prior to vaping again in order to prime it.

2) Your cartridges have the same "yuck". Remove filler (wool I guess). Wash the wool and cartridge itself thoroughly in hot water.. Do so until you get no burnt smell on either. Blow water out of carts and dry wool on paper towel.

3) To avoid this happening again: Make sure to align your cartridge correctly (I'm not sold that this is all that important but it does seem to help a bit). To do this look in side your atty and you will see a white ring at the base of the wick that is the same shape as the top of your cart. Match em up when you plug it together.

Personally I am now in the habit of doing this as routine maintenance as it made a huge difference!!! Every few nights I simply yank the wool out of all my empty carts run to the sink and wash/dry. Stuff a paper towel in at least one of my atty's and prop it up in position for the night. Takes 5 minutes and is so worth it!

In regards to getting 10 smokes out of a cart. Sounds about right to me if filled properly. Are you simply dripping into the cart until wool is saturated. If so....wrong answer. Pull the wool and drip 13 drops into the empty cartridge....gently replace wool with tweezers...then top off until liquid will not absorb. 10 smokeys ready to go. Again something that becomes second nature quickly as rather than count drops you'll just know where your "fill line" should be.(I would imagine exactly how many smokes it equates to would also depend on your e-liquid. I use Like Smoke/Ruyan #4 in 24mg)

Hope this helps and don't give up!
