Interesting Johnny! That's the 1 reason why I don't tailpipe the 510 ... lips get a burning quite quickly!

what type of ballpoint pen?

The pen I'm using is a Zebra : Z Grip Gel. I think whatever kind you like will work, they fit the 510 and 901 perfect, just have to trim the length. I'm using it on my 510 to tailpipe at 6v with no burnt lips, and I have the rubber about half a milimeter above the atty so when I hit a bump in the road the metal doesn't bash my teeth.

I can't believe what I'm reading here. Those baffles are in the cart for a reason. If you hear a gurgling sound be thankful that the baffel is there or the juice would be in your mouth.

Actually for use as a regular cart the 510 cart is well designed. For dripping there might be some mods required. I stop any time I hear the gurgling and pop out both the tip and the inner baffle. No extensive blowing is required. You can clean the 2 chambers out with a q-tip or by blowing onto a rag.

If you get the gurgling sound this indicates that the liquid is bypassing the atty. That means that the atty isn't performing at full production or your battery is too weak. Sometimes the liquid is normal condensation.

Carts are cheap, you can hack away all you want to experiment. But, be prepaired to start tasting liquid. Yuk.

Kevin ... I used to get liquid in my mouth all the time with standard 510 carts ... Hated it, so I switched to the 901 whistle tips. This helped a bit, but because air is drawn from the side of the atomizer, liquid travels up the side of the atomizer in to the tip. Been using Huey's mod now for about an hour or so, and not a single bit of moisture in my mouth or on the tip! It draws air directly from the middle, and essentially plugs the two breathing ports on the cartridge that feed off the sides of the atomizer. LOVING IT!!!! :D

Maybe that 901 tip is something I might need to try. I've been hearing about the whistle tips for some time now. I was more referring to the idea of removing the baffles alltogether.

Cart modding is something I'm interested in. We've taken the battery mods to excellent levels thanks to you and others. Now it's time we address the next weakness in the PV, the cart.

My take on the rubber cover:

Staples Pen: take apart, cut grip directly in 1/2 = 2 510's covered

What i normally do:

(certain style 901 cart... these i got from totally wicked)

uhm... i've actually used the 510 carts on the 901 too... seemed to work well.

Edit: i really need to clean my desk.

edit2: i really need to order the other protege adapters lol i hate adapting adapters

I'm speaking of dripping only. The liquid that is in the channels is from the vapor condensating. What I described is just an easy way to get it out. Now, if you are actually using the cart as a storage chamber for juice, that may be a different story. I'm essentially using it to tailpipe the long way.

As for a later post, I agree that a cart mod is worthwhile. The design of the cart will work better for dripping if it is modified...it wasn't really initially designed for dripping.

You know what? Actually that rubber cover isn't a good idea. It will prevent the atty from being able to cool off, kind of like an insulator. Your atty will hold it's heat in and become hotter than normal. It will protect your fingers but your atty will get hotter.

Kevin

I've only been using this for about a week, but I've been running a single 510 atty pretty hard core @ 6v just to try it out, and its working good so far.

Weird. I get liquid in my mouth from a 901 tip, but NEVER have gotten any from a 510 in like 6 months of use. The gurgling sound alerts me and I just blow it out and wipe the sides with a napkin.

Steve,
You get liquid in your mouth using a 510 just from overdripping or using a cart?

I'll tell you man, the worst is when you think the cart is running dry and top it off real good. Place it back on the atty and take a good drag waiting for that good vapor hit and you discover the battery was dead. talk about a mouth full!

That's when I learned to put the cart up to my ear and listen for the sizzle before taking that drag. I don't care how experienced you are one day the bear will bite you.

I'm gonna try your idea next Johnny!

Huey ... your cart mod is still going strong!!! This is the coolest thing since sliced bread! NO LIQUID IN ME MOUTH !!! I'M IN LOVE and MY NON TINGLY LIPS ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL!!!!!

Yup, mine's going like gangbusters too. I don't know if you cut off the atty side of the cart but since I did mine my cart comes out a lot less wet too (hardly ever has even a drop on it). The original used to always have drops that I would have to wipe off when I pulled it out.

Theory....drilling and shortening the cart makes for less surface area for condensation to form. The black plastic is realitively cool and rough, as compared to the atomizer, and provides a good substrate for condensation.

or,

Less = mo-better

nevermind! just realized the wifey took the camera with her to Los Angeles for the holiday ... Grrr ...

Its like a little nubby cart!!!! LOVING IT HUEY!!!! Hopefully, not much juice in the mouth since it doesn't draw air from the sides of the atomizer anymore! Will keep ya'll posted!
When your wife returns, I would love to see pics of this. I am a little confused as to the specific modifications you guys are making but would love to try it...

:D My First Modification!, And It Rocks Huey ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Also want to mention that a Good way to keep pocket lint or anything from getting inside of atty after doing this Mod is to use a Rubber Boot that comes on the Cartomizers / Cartridges of the ACE, It fits the Mouthpiece perfectly and keeps it lint free :)
