I've been doing a ton of reading here (still don't even have an E-cig yet - may the USPS gods smile on me TODAY).

Read lots about folks trying to make their own e-juice too, mostly from soaking tobacco in various liquids, usually water, and then adding glycerin or PG or whatever.

Has anyone tried soaking tobacco in glycerin or PG straight? I'm not familiar at all with the consistency of PG or any of that stuff, but sooner or later I'm bound to try my own. Just wondering if anyone has tried and what the results were...

What we need to know, and i have searched in vain for this so far, is - we know how much nicotine is inhalable from a given amount of tobacco (more or less). What we are not sure about is whether this figure is what we could, at maximum, expect to get by a solvent such as VG and water and alcohol. Because there is a possibility that this might be much higher, people feel it is unsafe to try. I suspect the two figures will be similar, but i dont know that for sure. If so, this method would not be very efficient, although some taste might be a benefit if one is hoping for a taobacco taste.

I made some in an open glass with 50/50 VG and vodka. Takes a brown color and after a couple of days liquid reduced nicely by evaporation and the vodka smell disappeared. But then was too busy to try it and it's dried out now :(

This may not answer your specific question...

Investigations Into the Extraction of Nicotine From Tobacco

But I just found this.

I think, as the result of the many tobacco lawsuits, all the tobacco industrie's internal documents have become publicly available. There's millions of documents, and I bet dollars to donuts all the info anyone could want to know about tobacco and nicotine is contained therein. Of course, wading through all that information will take some time.

Ok I have a method... However try at your own risk!!!
First go buy EverClear 190 proof grain alcohol at your local Liquor store. (Some states in USA this product is illegal)
Second buy some raw tobacco leaves. (Do a search on google for "Tobacco Leaves for Sale") DO NOT TRY TO TAKE APART YOUR ANOLOGS AND USE THE TABACCO IN THERE!!!
Third shred the tobacco leaves is to grass size clipping until you have about an ounce worth of Tobacco.
Forth take a glass jar that is sealable and put the ounce of tobacco in the jar. Pour some EverClear in the jar till the Tobacco floats freely. Let sit for 8 hours and shake it ever couple of hours in between. You will end up with a dark brown liquid.
Fifth take a metal pot and use an old cotton shirt to cover the pot and pour the liquid from the glass jar through the cotton shirt. The liquid will end up free of debris in the pot. Repeat step 4 and 5 again to maximize the yield with the same tobacco. After that throw the tobacco out its useless now since all the nicotine has been extracted.
Sixth take an ELECTRIC STOVE (DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME STOVE FOR THIS!!!) and turn on to medium low and place the pot on the stove and let simmer till the consistency reaches and oily consistency. If it gets to thick just add in a small amount of Everclear. Make sure you have ventilation in your work area. What is left is nicotine concentrate. Be patient it will take a couple of hours.
Seventh take the nicotine concentrate and PG and mix 25% extract and 75% PG. Shake Well. Now you have your own Juice. :)
I would recommend that you play around with the levels of nicotine concentrate and PG to get a taste you like. I have not played with any flavors yet but this process also works with different type of Tobacco leaves if you catch my drift. ;)

I'm fairly certain the way the labs are doing it is with an acid/base extraction. This will take the pure nicotine from the tobacco with no particulates, but the reason that people don't do this is because nicotine is extremely dangerous and could potentially kill you during handling at this concentration.
I'm talking crystal nicotine, get even a tiny grain of that on your skin or in a mucous membrane, and you're dead. The nicotine only becomes safe once it is dissolved in the appropriate amount of water.

I am never going to try this, i just figured it out based on what i know about nicotine and chemistry. I would advise you never try this either, nor anyone reading. Just buy e-liquid. It's not worth the risk of dieing just to produce your own liquid nicotine.
