I am still fairly new to diy juice making. Honestly I am pretty bad so far, I have had some delicious batches but am having trouble with new ones. I digress. My nicotine base is 1.8% in VG (all my mixes are max VG, some flavors have pg though) and almost all my mixes are a target 3mg (.3%) strength. Sometimes a batch will come out as quite harsh. I don't think it is the flavoring, as I have been keeping the flavors low (I have had problems over flavoring my mixes) and I don't have this problem when making a no nic mix. But I feel like I haven't had my current nic base for anywhere near long enough for it to oxidize. I have had it a month, it is a 250ml bottle, that is solid (not transparent), and stored away from heat and I always put the cap back on very tight. It is from wizard labs. It gives a harsh vape, almost comparable to taking a big hit of 12mg on an rda, and I can feels a bit of tightness in my lungs after. What could be happening? Any insight would be appreciated.

yes your suppose to shake your nic base before your using it. Energy drink has caffaine in it. that probley why your feeling a double wammy from the nic and caffeine

does that really have caffeine? wow... I know its not really recommended but I've been wanting to try that for a while. can someone share a link with me please? -- never mind -- I found it on the FA site and it says nothing about caffeine :(

I am using the flavor apprentice, my base mix is 10% energy drink and 4% (sometimes I go up to 8, but the batch I recently made is just 4) raspberry sweet.

If your just getting in to DIY I would recommend you build yourself a magnetic stirrer -- $15-20 worth of parts and an hours time will save you countless of shaking and steeping time.

This guy has a youtube video on building one -- he is using it for shallac -- but it very similar to the one I built and it works like a champ (you might want to use old hard drive magnets instead of the little ones he used if you have an old hard drive handy.)

I know steeping is usually to help the flavor settle and blend in with the base, but are there times when it will smooth out a harsh mix?

oh yeah it can for sure help sometimes -- for the most part I can avoid steeping by leaving it on my mixer longer until its just full of air bubbles (1-2 hours) -- but certain flavors just need some time to sit and air out even after that -- there are also some additives you can put in your juice to mellow out your throat hit

I use the steam engine juice calculator for all my nic mixes. Are you supposed to shake or stir nic base before you use it? If your not supposed to, would doing so possibly speed up the oxidation? I do it sometimes because I'm not sure.

Shake it like crazy and open it up to give it fresh oxygen daily. You can also use a crockpot or double boil it for a few hours at low temp to get it oxidized quicker.
