Hi Yall, Got a quick question. I had a bad nic attack a little while ago, almost grabbed an analog. Decided to grab some 18mg Torque I hadn't touched in almost 2 weeks when this idea hit me. I've been vaping VG (Boba's and Gorilla juice) exclusively for the past 2ish weeks, those two have been my vapes only. Its been exactly 15 days since my last analog and I noticed around day 6-7 I started feeling weird...My chest had tightness especially at night laying down and also had weird spurts of waking up (like a jolt in my body) I saw the Doc for my chest tightness...EKG and X-Ray were normal. I am wondering if its the VG making me feel weird, I have acid reflux and anxiety disorder so chest discomfort could be either.

7-10th of December I was on 12mg of 50/50 mixes
11th - 15th of December I tried 18mg juices (Boba's and Torque 56) - 18mg was too high for me, and majority of this period I vaped the Boba's
16th - Today I been on 6mg (Boba's and Gorilla juice)

Seems like my chest tightness whether it be reflux or anxiety started when I totally stayed on VG .... Anyone opinions?

Or Could it just be not smoking causing the problems and/or rapidly reducing my nicotine?

Does VG mess with reflux? Cause mines been killin me even with meds.

Thanks,
Adam

Could be, I suppose. I've seen a few members post similar issues with the chest congestion when using high VG. Are you by chance vaping more or chain vaping whenever you use Bobas or GJ? I know when I first started using those flavors I just couldn't get enough of it and vaped my self nic sic.

I personally only use 100% VG and have never had that issue. I actually had it when I used PG/VG liquids. I'm gonna make an educated guess and say your reflux may be more of too much nic. Or nic too often with deep inhales. You could try taking fewer deep inhales to see if that helps. I happened to notice over time that I do a lot of shallow inhaling. Only inhaling as far as my throat, most of the time, with a few deep inhales. With vaping nic is absorbed in the mouth more than in the lungs. Whereas nic from smoke is absorbed more in the lungs.

I mean you still get VG in most juices unless you are using 100% PG. But try dropping the high VG juices out other than for the occasional treat vape. See how it goes.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm not a heavy vapor at most probably half to a mL a day. Basically using all this as a cessation to quit nicotine, almost on a as needed basis when sunflower seeds aren't cutting it. At 6mg not sure how I would be getting too much nic. Going to stick to the higher pg for a few days and see how things go.

Welcome to quitter's symptoms and adjusting to e-cigs.

The 2 or 3-weeks in and having cravings is real normal. You must push through it. You're withdrawaling from the "other stuff" in cigs besides nic.

The chest stuff...IDK. Many report a tightness that feels more like it's in their esophagus. That took time to go away for me. IDK what it is. It may be different for you too, so who knows. "Chest" covers a lot of area. You saw a doctor...great idea.

I use 75% PG, 25% VG or even less VG%. If you don't have a problem with PG, I'd try higher PG juice if you think VG is a possible culprit.

I've had similar issues in my chest for a few years now way before I started vaping so I dont think its the juice I would say anxiety but then again im no doctor. All I know is when I had that tightness in my chest especially laying down at night on my back i decided to see my doctor about it too. I had the xrays and stress tests and a few other things and all came back normal. We concluded that I was probably having panic attacks and he prescribed me xanax now when I feel that way I pop one of those and feel much better. I also had the weird jolts at night so id pop a zanny and was able to sleep fine with no more chest pains or jolts. For me, years of alcohol, smoking and other substance abuse when I was young has caused these problems and it sucks but I deal with it. Atleast its relieving to hear my test results come back fine. Could be alot of things everyones body works different. If you think VG or PG or whatever else for that matter might be having an unpleasant effect on you I would document what you are taking and how you feel afterwards to maybe narrow down possibilities and remain in touch with your doctor but im sure that goes without saying.

Not an expert here, but:

Do you get more reflux with nic lozenges too? (If you've tried em). You're still swallowing more nic than with smoking I'm guessing. Nic causes it in general (as does other stuff).

Also the PV you're using makes a difference. Poorly vaporized juice is harsher and probably causes more irritation.

Also PG is slightly harsher than VG, but you indicated VG as an issue, so...IDK. May be timing too.

I was on reflux meds for 15+ years. Probably dropped well over $10K with variious gastro-enterologists.

Did a food elimination diet w/nutiritonist----got off dairy, soy (and to lesser extent, hydrogenated veg oils or high fat foods) and VOILA. No more reflux. It's been over a year now, it's changed my life!

I can now drink tomato juice, have spaghetti sauce, all the acidic stuff they told me I can't have.

I vape 100% VG with no problems. (pg makes my throat and chest hurt)

My reflux was so bad I did major damage to esophagus, etc. I was miserable almost every day, even on Nexium.

My whole life feels different now :)

Yep- what he said. It's most likely detox.
If you were smoking a pack a day, and cut down to a half ml a day of 12-18 mg juice, your body is going to want to fuss a little.

Oh and that increase in your gastro intestinal tract clearing it's throat, so to speak, that's probably VG too.

I'm sure everyones different , but I can tell you I don't vape high% VG juices anymore, the last time I did for any extended length of time, I ended up not being able to get enough air during normal breathing. I stopped the high% VG juices and it took over a week, maybe two to get back to normal breathing. I've never had anything like that happen in thirty years of smoking normal cigs.

The most impotant thing here for you and everyone who reads this post, is that you did go to the doctor right away. Sadly there is just not enough research yet on vaping that we as ECF members can give answeres on med questions with 100% athority. The fact that you checked back in is excellent, as others who have been in your situation can chime in on their own experiences. After you figure out what exactly is going on, please pay it forward, and look for other posters with this isue in the future. I vape only VG, and once in a while get a heavy chest after a deep vape. I normaly don't inhale as I am an x-cigar smoker. You don't have to inhale to get the nic. if you don't want to. The vapor transfers threw the mucus membrain of your mouth realy well. If you don't inhale, you don't get the throat hit though. Best of luck.

Absolutely, the foods you eat affect reflux. I had a similar experience. Bad reflux woke me up one night with heart attack like symptoms. I changed my diet and took some prilosec for a couple weeks and then continued with the more mediterranean type diet and I've never had problems with reflux again. Got a friend of mine to start eating that way too and after taking prilosec everyday for years, he was able to get off it, as well. Amazing what good eating can do for your health.

I vape 100% VG due to sensitivity to PG and haven't noticed any problems with my Asthma (scar tissue from Pnuemonia is most of my issue now that I quit analogs). I have noticed the extra moisture does bring up some of phlegm that builds up though, especially when I am sick.

Typically VG and PG are very hygroscopic, and will tend too dry things out, but in my case, it does seem to help.
