So I have past my 2 week mark of no longer smoking analogs. yay for me! but concerned that suddenly in the last five days my cough has returned. booo!! I was so happy for loosing the cough. I've looked up that a post smokers cough happens in some people when they quit as their lungs are now repairing and starting the healing process.

But considering a friend of mine recently discovered that I had quit was happy that I did, but gave me dire and serious warnings about vaping. Has me worried. The way he was acting towards me vaping, I got a strong impression that he thinks smoking is way safer. Well no, but that I should just quit. (I have tried cold turkey which ended in disastrous results before) Crazy thing.. this person said they had one of my devices before and used it that lasted with over a month of healing the crazy cough he got. But yet didn't have a clue what my device was or what was in it. I'm thinking this person probably had a bad reaction to whatever he was vaping.

So now, I was thinking I might have post smokers cough, but now I'm wondering if I may have a sensitivity? coughing fits are not directly correlated to vaping, meaning I don't cough when I vape, my lungs don't hurt, nor do they feel tight or clogged, I don't have any sinus issues, but yet.. when the coughing fits comes, its like clearing out my lungs as my throat tickles, then it stops for a while. Does seem to be getting a little less frequent, but I don't know. Just trying to pay attention to what my body is doing.

I just am looking for anyone's opinion who might have gone through this type of coughing while quitting using vaping.

First of all congrats on the quitting smoking! That is awesome. Secondly, your friend sounds like a common misinformed person. You will run into them everywhere. Visit CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association and you will find links to a ton of real information that you can use to explain vaping to your friend or anyone else that might have questions.

You are probably correct about the post smokers cough. Your lungs are now healing from the beating they have taken while you were smoking. They have to eject all of the tar and chemicals that have built up in them over time. If it persists you should see a doctor. Also try and lower your PG to VG ratio and see if that helps. Good luck!

Whatever you do don't go back to smoking those cancer sticks!!!

Yes it may be post smoker's cough but PG is also a slight throat irritant. Even after 5 years being clean, I still have small coughing bouts but I notice it is much cleaner of a cough compared to when I was on analogs. It is a dry cough and i notice that there are no more phlegm and I too notice a slight tickle and kick from the PG.

About being allergic to PG, ive noticed in people that there are more symptoms thats show up. My bro in law is allergic and cant touch any juice with PG. He would notice an 'acne like' hives breakout on the face and neck. A few members on here have reported that as well.

Thank you for your answers and thoughts. I will keep monitoring my progression with this cough. I think the most frustrating thing, is you think you are doing the right thing then the cough hits, while not normally something that would fully alarm me (as I did research up on it) but a friend comes along and starts speaking to you as if you just signed your death sentence for switching over to vaping. Sort of rattled me as there really was no full way for me to explain what I knew from research that I had done. I literally walked away from the conversation going, I should just smoke, less hassle. But yet I know, I don't want to go back. It's that addiction part of me speaking I know.

Strange thing is, I have the support of my family and coworkers as well as many friends, so why I allowed one person's opinion rattle me probably is a curiosity in itself other than being unsure if I was having a reaction to the pg.

I'm vaping a 50/50 blend and it doesn't seem to be really causing any issue other than sometimes throughout the day and night, I suddenly break out into a coughing fit.

Thank you all again!

If you are coughing up a bunch of schtuff I would put my money on ex-smoker's cough. If it's a little tickle in the back of your throat I might think it's irritated due to PG, but since it doesn't happen when you vape that doesn't seem to jive. Could just be seasonal allergies as well. They are really really bad here in my neck of the woods this year. Lots of people without any history of seasonal allergies are affected this go round.

As said, there is actually about 3 to 5% of vapers that turns out to have a PG allergy, there are also vapers that turn out to have a VG allergy. A number of these vapers smoke either 100% vg, others chose to thin their e-juice with grain alcohol and/or distilled water (especially those that prefer cartomizers over atomizers).

I have started to vape 2 weeks ago on the nose today and have not touched a cigarette but once, and not because I craved it but because my inadequate planning left me without e-juice for a few hours (doh!). I still cough frequently, though the intensity and the feeling of having a weight on my chest when I cough is about gone.

I have smoked analoges for up and about 27 years, mostly about a pack a day but have had times where I easily smoked two packs a day. Switching to vaping is the best decision I could have made.

Stick it out, experiment with vg/pv percentages if the cough stays persistent or increases and see if you might have a sensitivity to either.

The first day I vaped my Halo brand juices (only had blu before that) I got the hiccups. Off and on for 8 hours straight. I'm sure it was related, but the issue has cleared up.

I wouldn't worry about a little coughing unless it becomes truly permanent or severe. Take that with a grain of salt though because I base it on absolutely nothing! :2cool:

It is possible that you have had a cough for non-smoking reasons and the smoker's cough was on top of that. I have a friend who has had a cough since he was a teen (over a decade) ... non-smoker (of any kind). Asthma, GERD, alergies, some medicines, etc. can leave you with a persistent cough that you may not have known you had because you blamed all coughing on the cigs.

I've heard of you get hiccups with cigarettes or ecigs it means it's too much nicotine. Not sure, just what I have heard.

I have coughed for years and have always attributed it to smoking.
Have been smoke-free for 2 months and still cough.
I'm convinced it's a combo of asthma, allergies, sinuses and lack of water.
I'm not hacking up a lung but that annoying tickle drives me out my mind.
I vape mainly VG so I sincerely don't think vaping has anything to do with my cough.

The first time I vaped I definitely did a direct inhale and coughed up a storm! Then as I was on a massive research binge here on this site I learned to take in the vapor like you would a straw before inhaling and that helped lots. My coughing seemed to have ceased for the first several days of vaping, then by just a little more than a week the coughing hit. Lots of gross stuff came up but nothing that indicates an infection.

I will absolutely keep in mind that other factors could be causing the coughs so I will just keep monitoring myself and visit my doctor if I feel its getting worse and not better.

I so appreciate each and everyone of your comments, you guys are so helpful!

You may be sensitive to the PG, I was. I kept having a cough, and tickle in my throat. Then tingling on my tongue and lips and then itching all over and hives. I switched to a 100% VG blend and the problem went away. I did find out though that many companies have their flavorings in a PG base and the only company I could find that did not do this was Virgin Vapors. Most amazingly true flavors I have ever tasted as well. Switch from a PG base and see if it helps. :D
