Including a tax on smoke free tobacco products in this Bill is just wrong. The taxes on cigarettes and alcohol (sin taxes) are justified as users of these products place an increased burden on tax payers due to increased health care and other costs. The increased taxes can also be justified on the basis of an incentive for citizens to make a healthier choice to not use them. However, smoke free tobacco products, like electronic cigarettes, have not been proven to have the same costs associated with them neither have they been proven unhealthy to use. The current view from most medical experts is that the harm incurred from use of electronic cigarettes is significantly lower than from traditional cigarettes. Therefore there is absolutely no justification to use high tax rates on these products.

I thought it was a significant argument. However the posting restrictions prevented me from posting.
