I really like this forum but it is really doesn't make sense that I cannot post until I waste my time and everyone elses posting things just to get a count of useless posts to be able to post elsewhere. I belong to a lot of forums and post very little as I only say something when I feel I can add to the discussion or have a question (that needs to be asked in the appropriate forum). guess I won't be posting, just lurking and learning. I am sure you have a reason for this rule but it really makes no sense except to get people to post meaningless things to get their count up. That is my vent and will keep my mouth shut for the rest of my time here:(

i'm warning you, might want to put your flame shields up, lots of people are very zealous about the rules here, as there are many reasons things are set up this way, and one of the primary reasons is to protect the users from false information, spam, and general inappropriate behavior....it states a few of the reasons in the stickies i believe, good reads they are.....

asides from all that, welcome to ECF and good luck vaping, however i am going to warn you one of the worst things you can do to offend this community is to QQ about posting rules when your post count reads 1.

No need to keep your mouth shut for the rest of your time here; we all like hearing from as many people as possible :) It's just a rule they implemented to guard against affiliate spammers and the like from signing up for new accounts constantly and spamming the forums. 4 more posts and you're free to post essentially everywhere on the forum.

So, sorry your introduction to these forums was unpleasant for you, but I hope you reconsider and use some of these "useless posts" to say hello and meet some people you may interact with many times again in the future or ask any questions you may have.

We prefer your five meaningless posts to tons of spam. The volunteer moderators have enough to do without chasing down spam.

There are always other new members to welcome and if you post a good question/comment here, many veterans will respond. If it's a really good question often they move the entire thread to the appropriate forum section when you get enough posts.

5 is really not that many....

Forgot to welcome you to the forum. Welcome.

I don't spam, older than dirt, and belong to many forums that don't require numerous posts. don't really see how it stops spam other than mechanical stuff. I guess I am a bit old fashioned, not Al Gore, didn't invent the internet but been on it a long time. Sorry if I offended anyone but flame away if you feel the need (no one has yet), just seems like a waste of time, only have three more I guess, maybe get them done in a month or two. thanks for the responses. been smoking for 50+ years and vaping has got me going in the right direction. this forum saved me a few bucks in trials (still wasted some money at the begining). Found my favorite at this point just working on a few juices now, one more mod to buy when it is available. Down to two cigs a day that I don't need but saying goodbye to an old friend takes a little time- again, thanks for the responses, great forum

Congratulations on finding something that works to keep you off of or helps in reducing your exposure to smoking tobacco. As far as the 5 posts in the new members forum, well, what can I say. Like most systems designed to counteract the nastiness of human nature it is far from perfect, and, who knows, may very well be counterproductive. I'm sure you'll find that, in spite of what your opinions may be regarding the rules of the forum, that people here are always looking to help each other out any way they can. Best of luck to you as you continue finding your "sweet spot" in vaping, and I sincerely hope you enjoy the forum.

Welcome to ECF. There are a lot of friendly people here, so all you have to do is say hello to a few of them. "The mechanical stuff" is exactly why they do this. It really isn't so hard, you already have 2. They aren't new threads you have to start, just 5 individual ones to prove you aren't a machine bent on disrupting the forum or an unregistered supplier coming in to spam for sales.

All in all, it is really a simple way to weed out the obvious stuff. I do hope you DON'T stay quiet, and ask questions whenever you need some help.

I was on dial up BBS systems in the early 80s, and tons of forums for everything from paintball to singles dating to the latest pc game...

And I thought the same thing when I joined ECF a week or so ago after lurking for a month... But to be honest, some of the most entertaining and informative threads are right here in the noobie section... Now I am just bumming that after 75 posts, I can no longer start threads here... LOL

Howdy DJ,

I'm an old fart, 57. Wondered if I would ever get around to actually posting so I could start threads, if I wanted to, didn't think I wanted to. After lurking for a few weeks, finally got around to actually registering. The more I read, and I read a bunch, the more I found that these folks here, not only provided great info, but wanted more info, even from a noobie like me. Once I actually posted something and everyone jumped in with both feet, and in a way that made me feel great about what I was posting.....well, now they can't shut me up, lol.

Welcome DJ to ECF, I personally hope to hear from you on a large range of subjects. Everyone's experience is a bit different from the other guy and the more info we have from all people from all the wonderful differences we have....the better.

Respectfully,
Big Mac

I do hope you enjoy your time here. :)

There is no perfect way to guard against spammers. 5 posts in this section is our way. It helps restrict spammers to one part of the board and makes it easier to clean up after them.

I'm not saying you are one, but by abiding by the rules set forth by the admins of the forum, you're helping to make this forum a better place!!

Saying hello to people that are also new is a great way to make your post count.
Replying to folks who say hello to you is also another great way.

Where in the rules does it state that you have to post *meaningless things* in your first 5 threads on ECF?

I read the new posts daily. Most newbies seem to arrive with something thoughtful to contribute.

Welcome and hope you enjoy your membership going forward more than you expressed here. :) I think you will.

I read them daily too. I think you'll find that a lot of folks converse in the newbie forums. You can get great advice, and give great advice here. Don't give up yet!!

You'll find a fair chunk of knowledgeable people in new member section, your specific questions (probably) won't get moderated into specific sections until you've hit post count threshold. Feel free to ask anything you want in here, there's a good chance it'll be answered. When you come on one day and see half a page of deleted threads in here, you'll be glad there's a minimum count. There's a lot of new members regularly so this keeps em all in one spot.

That said, welcome to ECF, pull up a rock and stay a while. Hitting minimum doesn't take long and then you'll have free reign (almost) to the other subs.
