Good on you! And keep coming. Dissent from the status quo is absolutely essential for improvement and vigorous dissent is usually necessary in the face of the zealotry.

The 5-post rule may in fact be a stupid rule andmay have been put in place, not by the membersand for the members, but by the volunteers for their own convenience. I do not know if this is the case but I doubt if that rule is the only possible solution to the problem. Have the members of the forum, the people that come to the site and provide the page views that the advertisers pay for, the people for whom the site exists, the people for whom the site was ostensibly created, ever looked at the problem and considered other possibilities?

Has any other possible solution ever been proposed or considered by the members or was the rule just there one day, like the rules on the end wall of the big barn at Manor Farm. Lot of smart people here and they ain't all volunteers. I bet that with some effort and thought we could come up with a rule that would satisfy all the interested parties.

I've seen a lot of criticism of that rule and the response is always the same: Don't rock the boat, Things are just fine the way they are, The rules are there for a reason. You know, the same crap administrators tell sixth-graders when they talk out of turn. So, until there is open discussion of the rule and some other possible solutions proposed, I say: You Go djensen9367! Keep coming back. We need your strong voice in the eternal struggle of the members against the Zealots of Regression!

This is gonna be fun to watch! I wonder how long it'll be before the "if you don't like it leave" stuff starts? Ah well, it'll it'll keep me occupied until the mail person gets here...

Welcome to all the new members. I didn't understand the 5 post rule at first either, but before I knew it I had to many post and couldn't start a thread in the new members forum anymore. After spending many days and hours on ECF, I appreciate what the rules are for. Actually I find I spend most of my time in the new members forum. If nothing else just to say "Welcome to ECF". When I made my first post I was overwhelmed with the kindness and advice I received from this group of people. I'll say it again, "Welcome to ECF and congrats on your decission to join.

As spam rules go, I like it lot better than captchas.

Whatever it was that you're so hot to post in [other subform], post it here. It'll get read. Others will answer, or comment. Or you could make nice on someone else's thread. Five posts is nothing. It's not like the rule is 'start five meaningful topics' - that would suck.

PS: Welcome to ECF!
