Yeah, I'm fairly positive it was. I don't know of another Smoktech carto that's longer than a standard carto, flanged, and pre-punched with one hole. Do you? Maybe I'm an idiot

I'm not aware of one either (I may have seen some on madvapes but can't be sure of it).

Two things I can think of:
1) do you have a multimeter?
2) you may have burnt out the bottom coil and didn't know. Since you've been using it has it performed differently all of a sudden?

What part do you actually cut to make a dual coil a single coil? IS it the little black wire poking out the top at the very centre of the carto? How does this actually work? There are still two coils in there they would just no longer be connected to eachother right?

Can some people confirm this works? I've searched around the forum and have found very little on this, I would think if it did work this would be very common practice as so many people seem to want single coils that are pre-punched and flanged - if simply cutting the dual coil worked this would be an obvious and popular method...

I have done this a number of times.

You can see in the picture above that the top coil wire is exposed at the top of the carto. By simply cutting that you make the top coil inoperable as no power can get to it. The bottom coil still gets power because of the way it's wired.

Pherse was the person I heard it from, so I don't want to take credit for the idea (and I think he heard it from oliver44)

I can't see the picture because ECF is being a ...... but I did know the one you meant. That's the same one I cut. Maybe jarring the coil whilst cutting can damage it? I'm still trying to make sense of how I busted it lol

Weird it shows up on tap a talk okay. But I've heard all over on the forum that the issue is occurring.

God I wish I knew how you broke that carto, I feel bad that you did it because of something I said.

It may have been possible if there was a weak solder point and it snapped when you were cutting the top coil, or the bottom coil was already dead

Thanks Zer0ith. I went ahead and did it with one of my prefills, transferred it straight to my lavatube to try out and yes it definitley works. Can't say it performs as well as my standard resistance boges but its much better than the dual coil on an ego or amp limited lavatube. I just gave it a little snip at the top and voila, guess I can ressurect my lr dual coil stash now, only if I could do the same with the 2.5ohm ones which the lavatube limits (have to find another mode that works well with these things I guess).

Chellynelly, I'm using this on my lavatube, I started low and went higher with the volts, once I reached 5v I got a burnt taste, at about 4.7 it's delivering pretty nice. Also the pic wouldn't work with me using google chrome so I opened this thread and got the pic using internet explorer (and then opening the pic in a seperate window), so it might be a browser issue.

So many work arounds...be it for browsers or cartos...

Looking forward to trying this out with other juices on my dual coils, like I said it doesn't perform as well as a boge but its nice to have my tanks back, thanks for sharing Zer0ith

Don't feel bad, I asked the question :) I was going to do it no matter who told me, it just happened to be you so don't feel bad. Could be any number of things I guess, I ought to stop worrying about it, not like I'm going to figure it out! lol :p
