Jan, ask him if he wore this patch and crest and the Transportation Corps insignia, when he was stateside. If so, then he was Army Aviation. Overseas, he probably was assigned to the 101 but officially he was Tranportation Corps, or Army Aviation.

It looks to me like he was in the 101, Jan, but they won't recognize that and they won't give a reason why. It probably doesn't make a difference what division he was in though, at least as far as VA benefits are concerned.Bring up old subject.
Jerry he didn't wear either one of them. He wore the 101st patch.
First month RW was there he was in the 12 Aviation which was absorbed in the 101st Screaming Eagles. Technically back then you had to be RA (regular army or volunteer). He was considered U. S. drafted.
His company was the first Chinook company in the 101st. He was a Sargent and in charge of the second flight platoon which was 7 helicopters and was a FE on one.
