"...He told them to take it apart and see if the coil wires are touching, since that would increase the resistance".

(username removed) Perhaps the coil is crushed together, which would increase the resistance of the wire at certain points of it.

You know, I've been rethinking this.

I recall a 16mm film I saw in junior high school on the subject of electronics. Electrons (dubbed Eddie Electron) were animated characters, sort of an M&M with squat little legs which propelled them through conductors.

Now, if a DC coils were crushed together, that naturally means that Eddie and his friends would be dealing with low ceilings. At best, they'd have to crouch; more likely, they'd have to get down on all-fours so as to crawl through a flattened coil diameter. I either event, Randy Resistance is having his way with them.

Yes, maybe <username removed> has hit on something.

Naw PI, Eddie and his buds could just skip from coil to touching coil without taking the long way around and out run Randy.

The remark is about coils TOUCHING. A coil that touches an adjacent one will REDUCE the resistance, not increase it. I wind my own atty coils somewhat close. Sometimes a dry burn will deform the wire enough for a coil to touch. It will then measure less resistance and burn hotter.

He is wrong.

Yeah... shorts decrease resistance. lol. That's why there's shorts. Kat set them strait... I didn't even have to get involved.....

The only thing that can happen, is that the ohm rating is so low that the meter goes funky... and can't deal with ohms that low......but that isn't increased resistance, that's flakey meter. It was 99% sure a cold/bad solder joint. Just like Katya told em.
