Who done it.
Then you have to throw in Dean Koontz and Stephen King in the mix.
Also little romance now and then but nothing that is all romance.

Fiction plot with a little true history is pretty good too.

Actually there isn't much I won't try but it has to grab me in the first chapter or two or I give up on it.

James Patterson is good. I've probably read the others too but just can't remember what.
Johnathon Kellerman is one of my favorites. I've read most of his stuff up to about a year ago.
