LOL!! But he and I joined (and met) about the same time last year, when he was looking for a good price on a Riva... and has been through a lot since then, but just came back recently...

If I got a good book that I'm into the house could burn around me and I probably wouldn't notice.

A good book I can remember the day after I'm done. A movie or TV show---not too much until someone reminds me what it was about. I think a lot of it is so many that are so alike.

A Pre-Vet is an ECF member that is about to have their status "Turn" to ECF-Veteran on or about the anniversary of their ECF sign up.

This thread is where you can hang out (courtesy of Whiskey creating this thread) and celebrate becoming an ECF-Veteran with other ECF members. You have the option (but not the obligation) to have an Avatar Theme Celebration on your turning day. You select a theme, and many of the group here will help celebrate by changing their avatars. Kind of an avatar costume party. You'll also get a bunch of congrats and a welcome thread created in a sub-forum for vets that pre-vets can't even see yet. If you want to have an avatar theme, start thinking about it! Try to give us enough advanced notice that we can dig something up for pics.

I think I understand your angst well enough, Jerry.

My mother is 83 and counting--and, statistically, I don't figure to be counting much longer. I'm not ready to deal with her passing, but life doesn't care any more about that than it did when my father went away a decade ago.

I recall well the blow, sitting on a barstool, phone in hand, my brother attempting to soften the impact by saying "I GUESS Dad died." As if it was conjecture.

What made a difference was the fact he was making an attempt--if a pathetic one--to absorb some of the pain he was delivering to me by making a fool of himself.

I'll remember that as long as I remember my father and my mother. I'll cherish the moment.

I may be playing the fool now with this post, but I've been there, and I'm going there again sooner than I'd prefer. My emotional lifeboat was people that loved me.

There's people here that love you, Jer.
