Just got my Precise, and I can't use it!!

I have (pictured) 2 protected batteries. The middle one has a protrusion of a chip (?) on the side, that when inserted (it was TIGHT) it took the coating off and got very hot FAST!, I took it out and put it on the counter, it has since cooled, but I dare not use it in anything now. The other fits fine, and IS protected, but doesn't work, and the other blue one is what I got with my Janty Stick v3.

HELP!!!

I'm new to mods, I don't won't to sound belittling but is the trustfire fully charged? I'm thinking about getting a voltmeter or whatever its called. Do you have one of those? I heard that you need to keep the battery within its voltage range to keep it happy and those voltmeters are a good thing to have. Anyone with experience please correct me.

I've seen that more then once with protected batteries, the protective chip is sealed in off center. If you want, i just got in a batch of Protected 10440's that i'll get up on the site here asap. I'll double check each battery for fitment prior to shipping. My apologies for your battery woes.

Also, if you want to send me one of each of those blue batteries that don't work, i'll pay you for them and reimburse the shipping. I definitely want to check them out if possible. The Blue ones i have work, but that's not to say there isn't some funky ones out there!

Best,

David

I'd appreciate all your help David. Wans't happy to get it, and not be able to use it, and it killed my battery. If your willing, can you send me 3 known good batteries, and if you include a SASE, I can send these to you? I'll send all 3 so you can test for fitment. I would greatly appreciate it. :)

I have 4 protected 10440 batteries comming from DE, but they are friggin stuck in NYC as 2 of my other orders. :( Of course, I have NO idea if they will fit/work in the Precise or not.

I got the 4 pack from Dealxtreme and one of them had an off-center PCB, and was wishy-washy when firing. I squeezed it sideways with needle nose pliers to push the PCB over to center, CAREFULLY so as to not rip open the wrap or damage anything inside. Charged it in a covered cooking pot just to be safe, works great now. That's not to say you may not damage it by doing this, but I took the chance. (ETA: no, it's still acting funny so I'll probably toss it or take the wrap off and try to fix it.)

Get rid of the battery that got hot, if you don't send it to Dave. It could be dangerous now.

I added a tiny dab of Noalox to the ends of my batteries, including the one that had an off center PCB, also on all Precise and atty threads, the slider portion of the button and the end of the contact post on top of the button. HUGE difference! Even the bad battery is producing tons of vapor now.

I noticed contactor markings on the bottom of the batteries, and a few are showing that only a quarter to half of the diameter of the button contact is touching on the battery, basically there is a small 'pinky nail clipping' of a mark. So, not only is the PCB being off center a possible issue, the PCB not being level is an issue too (the button contact is definitely level and stands perfectly on end). The Noalox made all the difference and I suggest everyone use it whether you think things are working properly or not.

I hope that we can eventually find a better supply of batteries, the DealExtreme 4 pack is a great deal but not so great if they're just thrown together like they are. Like someone said about adapters, it's like putting a fine work of art into a frame you got at walmart. I'll be measuring the cavity in the Precise and stay on the lookout for a better quality battery option that will fit snug and make the best connection. Our options for protected 10440's are VERY slim right now, so we may have to wait a while, until then the Noalox will have to do.

Update:

First, I received some batteries from David, THANK YOU! And now for the rest of the story...

All 3 of the ones David sent a)work, and b) are identical to one set I already have. When I put in the new batteries, I happened to have been closer to some 808 cartos, so I popped one on and as I expected (given the batteries sent) I heard the sizzle. Cool, but what about the identical batteries I have? Popped one in, it worked!! Hmmm...but it didn't work before, why?

I'll shorten up the story, I'm sure you all don't want a play by play. It turns out that the Precise will NOT work with 510 cartos!!! At least not the ones I have that I got from LiquidXpress. When I first got the Precise, I was vaping and had handy my (new found love) 510 cartos. They work in EVERYTHING else, so they should in this, or so I thought.

David, is there anything you can do about this? I would really like to be able to use 510 cartos in my Precise. Also, I'll send you the 2 batteries that did NOT work (tested again by me with EVERYTHING else I got), do you want me to just pay you for the extra one? One of the 2 is the unprotected (and working) battery, I could just send you the dead protected battery and pay you for the other 2. However you want to do it, up to you.

I also wanted to publicly thank you David for a wonderfull product, and your patients working with the likes of me. :)

I don't know about the cartos, but I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest pulling the center post on the bottom of the atty down until it is hanging lower than the threaded collar. This is a problem with a lot of the configurations I try, and that fixes 90% of the issues. I use small needle nose tweezers or shim it down with a blade. Sometimes one device's adapter will push it in farther than the second device will allow for a proper contact.

The quality control on the 510 cartos really sucks.8-o I ordered 15 of them. I had to file down the threads on over half of them in order to screw 'em in. The center post on four of them was pushed in to far, had to pull'em out with a paper clip. The remaining two look fine, except that they are almost white from oxidation. Almost forgot, you'll also have to check the little airholes to make sure that they are not covered up by the insulation on the center post.
Once you get 'em all dialed in they work great.

Funny... I got some of the pre-filled "Caramel Macchiato" 510 carts and they all work fine (so far). I've certainly not open and tried every single one.

With them being the "next new thing" I'm sure they're squeezing them out as fast as the machines will run. They'll straighten / tighten up the machining after a little while when they calm down.

Yankee, no need to pay me for the extra battery, my treat! Sorry about those cartos, the five i have are hit and miss too. I've noticed there are more and more shops selling these, i wonder if they are all the same brand? If they are different brands, it would be nice to weed out the poorer quality ones.
