PrecisePlus 18350 Review
I am reviewing the P+ with the Cartomator tank together since they integrate so well.
I posted the following critera for a mod in a previous post when I was shopping. The P+ was the winner after considerable deliberation despite it totally failing the last item on the list (Cost). I was specifically looking for a durable mod for carrying around during the day that was also attractive.
1. Well crafted
2. True 3.7+ or 5v
3. Compatible with small carto/tank (ie Buzz m1a1 1")
4. No inconvenient button placement for tank compatibility
5. Flat endcaps with recessed 510 connection so that it can merge fairly seamlessly with tank.
6. Small as possible
7. Under $100
I will first address my original list than move on to other issues.
1. Well Crafted
Precise is the right name for this mod, it is so finely machined that it is not possible to do it better. Stainless steel is a great material for durablily although the P+ is a bit on the heavy side. The design is simple, this is a fully mechanical mod and can be completely broken down into its components. There are no electronics to fail.
2. True 3.7+ of 5v
Obviously this is a 3.7v device. I was willing to sacrifice performance and battery life for size (to a point). A compromise
3. Compatible with small carto/tank (ie Buzz m1a1 1)
4. No inconvenient button placement for tank compatibility
5. Flat endcaps with recessed 510 connection so that it can merge fairly seamlessly with tank.
Address these three at one time. From the pictures you can see that the P+ and the VPX Cartomator merge together so well that they appear to have been designed as one device. Asthetics is important to me, this combination is beautiful. I won't elaborate further the pictures answer these two questions.
6. Small as possible
P+ and tank are together 4.25 inches long TOTAL this is well shorter than most other mods without any a tank connected. The P+ is so precisely machined that I don't believe it would be possible to build a 18350 battery mod much shorter.
7. Under $100
The P+ fails this so dramatically it isn't funny. It wasn't funny when I was deliberating on whether to buy it or not. But no other mod came close to meeting the previous criteria to my satisfaction. Cost of P+ = $165, Cost of Cartomator tank = $45. That is not counting batteries, chargers, etc. Simply OUCH!
Form Factor
The P+ 18350 is small, but you can buy a P+ is a variety of lengths based on the battery used and can take advantage of the capacity and performance of that battery. With the flat caps this works great with a tank, very seamless. If you prefer you can get a slanted top cap which would blend in better with other hardware.
Fit and Finish
I'll keep this simple, fit and finish are PERFECT, this is why you are paying $165 for a simple mechanical 3.7v tube mod. Even the threads are perfect. It lives up to the hype. Any other mod looks shoddily put together in comparison.
Function
The P+ has a bottom button with a sliding lock. Due to the placement, the most easy way to activate the P+ is with your pinky finger. This is easier than it sounds because the button action is so light it can be activated with no effort at all.
There are performance compromises inherent to 3.7v mods especially one this small. Even using LR cartos I cannot reproduce what I can with a variable voltage mod. But I can still put out clouds of vapor. The battery goes down from 4.2v to 3.4v during use and this obviously affects performance. The 18350 battery is only good for a few hours. The P+ performs no better or worse than any other high quality 3.7 mod.
Final evaluation
This device exceeded my high expectation, the built quality of this thing is unparalleled. I will not sell this thing unless to replace it with a newer P+ although I cannot imagine what they could improve unless a better battery comes along. It is heavy, this is good and bad. If you somehow damage the finish on the P+, Super-T will refinished for free, lifetime. Oh did I say this thing has a LIFETIME WARANTEE including reconditioning and polishing. The only bad is the compromises you are forced to accept when choosing a 3.7v mod and a compact device.
I can unequivocally recommend the P+ 18350
