I have a single coil right now in a Dark Horse rda. 28g kanthal, 2mm diameter, it's like 1.1ohm. I used rayon, but had some serious trouble trying to get it through the coil. I did the best that I could, and my hits seem dry, and I frequently am putting more juice on, probably more than I should be. Only can really taste it well with the first 2 hits. Using 12 watts on an MVP 20w. I don't know if I should just build another coil with 28g, into 3mm, considering I can't go below sub ohm, so It would have to be wrapped like 4 times, which I don't even know if people do that lol.

How much juice are you putting in each time you fill it? 2 hits at 12w seems reeeeeally low. I used to have almost that same coil setup in my Derringer (mine was 29g/2mm/1.5 ohms) and I had to kick the Derringer up between 15-18w to get it going. I could drop about 15 drops into it each time, and it would last for a good 10 hits or so. Dry hits are pretty gnarly hot bursts of air into your throat when the wick doesnt have juice on it, so youre either not putting enough into it, or it could be an issue with the wick not being able to keep up with the heat. Rayon, unlike cotton, shrinks when it gets wet. I wouldnt focus on subohm resistances. Youve got enough power at hand, a subohm resistance on a regulated mod doesnt do anything at all unless youre using like a 100-150w mod that will only hit those highest wattages with the right resistance. The only thing a subohm coil really does, is takes less voltage to get to a certain wattage.

Quick example.. With a 1 ohm coil, at 15w, it takes 3.87 volts to get there. With a 0.5 coil, it only requires 2.74 volts, but youre also taking more power out of the battery because it takes almost 2 more amps to reach that wattage with that low of a resistance. Theres no advantage to it at the levels youre vaping at because your wattage is the same regardless of the resistance of your coil. Subohming is for mechanical mods that dont have control over wattage like a regulated mod. A mechanical is just that, mechanical, its basically a battery connected straight to a tank/dripper. The ONLY way to control the power coming out of it, is to change the resistance of the coil. Your MVP does that for you.

Well, I put the rayon in it and putting as much as I possibly can in it, and then it gets thin and I can see a gap in the coil, But I seriously can't get it through anymore. Right now I have a 28g single coil wrapped 7 times, It smells and tastes like burnt hair or wet dog. Seriously. I ordered ... cotton on ebay, 30 pads of it. and also 24g and 26g, 100ft. Maybe the 28g is just getting too hot, it is dry, and smells. Really sucks. I dont know what to do about it, tried a couple different coils, tried my best to get a lot of rayon in and thin it down but just doesn't work out. I'm getting my mvp pro 60w tomorrow where it can fire subohm, and with that I'm going to make parallel coils with the 28 until i get the bigger wire

Rayon when not wicked correctly does have that burning hair thing going on.

The issue is because unlike cotton which expands when juiced up, rayon shrinks down a bit.

Just a heads up Dillards\ JC Penny\Macys have big bags of Shieshido brand stuff for around ten bucks. (big 6.2 Texas dude got lots of weird looks lol)

For wire Lightening vapes and Temco are the best places to order from.

OMG Hans!
Where are you getting the air flow from?

You must have King Kong's lungs

Naw. I just puff on it like it was an analog. One mouthful at a time. :thumb: It works great for me. Never dry hits even with 10+ puffs in a row without a breath in between. It's my ADV usually. I did just get the Billow V2, so I've been using it a lot. It's coiled the same, just dual coils @ 30W. Gonna have to go back to the KF though. I'm blowin through 5 mL of juice every 3 hours on this thing. Lol!

I tried dual coils in my KFv4 a while back.

Hated it. Went straight back to my standard 1.4ohm single coil.

They work great in the Derringer though :)

Was just wondering what everyones preferred coils were..

-Single Coil or Dual coil? - Dual

-Ohm? - .52-.55

-Wire gauge? (Preferably wanting to know 28g builds) - 28g

-Anyone do sleeper micro coils? - Micro yes, sleepers no

-Coil diameter? - A little larger 1/16"

-Leg length? - Just as long as I need them to get the proper placement in my BF RDA

-What wattage? - As many as my mech puts to it at the given ohms and battery voltage

-What RDA/Mods? - LP Reo Grands and Odin's all day everyday

Im always .25 or less. i work with all gauges from 22 up to 32 depending on what im building. Kanthal and SS wire are my preferences. If I am looking for flavor I will stick to a simple straight forward 26 gauge build around 2.5 or 3mm and vape it around 70 - 75 watts. If i want to blow rain makers then its 22 or 24 gauge kanthal or 24 gauge SS. Right now I am running a massive 24 gauge dual parallel build 3mm ID 9 wraps per side, comes in around .18 wicked with Japanese cotton. I prefer Japanese cotton in my rdas and rayon in my rtas. Vaping this current build between 85 -100 watts although i can push it higher with no troubles.

You can get your japanese cotton at sephora in the mall. Its about 10 bucks for around 140 pads or so. Brand is Shisheido.

Holy heck!!! Did it melt the tank??? Lol! I like the single 1.4ohm coil i my KFL. It's just right for an all day tootle puffer.

You and about 70% of all vapers are in that range centered around 1.8Ω and a Kayfun (or similar). Important thing regardless is being able to duplicate whatchagot…each and every time. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes and it consistently shouldn't short which most winds do by design. Oh, and produce tons of vapor for the volts.

Good luck all.

:)

I'm a cloud chaser too. I keep a couple of drippers coiled between .25 and .6 ohms handy and fire them up a couple of times an hour for a different flavor and a coud. The KFL is just what I chain vape on all day to conserve juice... sort of. I still suck up about15 mL/day in the KF.

Yeah heard that. I'm usually at about 17.5W reg these days on an assortment of a dozen combo's vapin at least 15ml between em. Runnin' everything from 12w for Protank Mega's with ceramic wick and contact coils which I still enjoy to 75W on IPV4's @ .2 somethin'. It's a big playground when you DIY. After 2 yrs still dedicated to the game plan of buildin' a safe, reliable and rewarding vape for new vapers so they can enjoy that horizon.

Best of luck Hans.

:)

Dang thats almost 4 tanks of juice a day!! I can easily do that with my drippers (and often do) but my KF4 tank would last me almost a day! But then again I vaped it completely differently too.. Im impressed you can get 25w into it. Ive never been able to get mine past about 18 without hurting myself. I accidentally dry burned one of my coils once at 30w and the coil popped right off of it.
