First off, I am really new to this. Do most people refill? Is there anything wrong with disposable carts? I would think refilling is messy and troublesome.

If I wanted to just change the carts and throw them away, what would be a good product to use, 501? Ego? Other?

Once you get the hang of it, refilling is easy, but still a pain. I find that the liquid used in most prefilled carts sucks.

Now, I simply direct drip using a drip tip. Easy as pie, and flavor of vape is much purer and cleaner, with no plastic taste. Just 3 drops through the drip tip, then 10-12 puffs. Occasionally I use a cartomizer, but direct drip like 90% of the time.

Welcome! Most pre-filled carts do not have great taste, or a wide selection of flavors, so you will quickly tire of them, and will start looking around for interesting juices to try. At this point you will be filling your own carts, which is not really a big deal. If you haven't purchase a device yet, I would suggest an eGO kit - great battery life & large capacity carts. But, before you make a decision, I would recommend spending a lot of time reading posts here on ECF to get all of the information you can.

I agree! The prefilled carts usually don't last as long as the sites say they do so you end up having to buy a lot of them. If you find out that you enjoy chain vaping, you could go through 10 carts or more in one day because they just don't last that long. Using the juice can be a bit messy, especially at first, but once you get used to it and figure out what method works best for you, you'll find it's really not as bad as you think it is and the more you do it, the less messy you'll be!

From what I see:

1) Drip
2) Blank cartomizers
3) Pre-filled

I have a KR808D-1, blank carts from V4L and their juice.

I plan on getting a Riva 901 for the longer battery life (since it's compatible with the KR808D-1 carts) and to try the drip.

For me, I don't taste any plastic with my carts and can seem bellow out a ridiculous amount of vape.

So, my KR808D-1 seems to do the trick for me. I'll be filling 20 at a time (took about 1 1/2 hours the first time) every 2-3 weeks. Grab and go :)

I'm still learning and new to this but I have tried refilling used carts this past week. The only problem I've had is finding nicotine around here to put in them. I found several flavors from Lorann that I liked, but many more I'd have to order online. Anyway, if I can find the nicotine and learn how much I need to use, I think I will save a bundle.

Here's a tutorial on DIY juice that you should watch. (fyi: you can't use the lorann's by itself, it's just flavor)
YouTube - E-CIGS FOR BROKE PEOPLE! Part 3 - DIY Juice

You can get a cheap DIY kit several places:

Unflavored e-Liquid 54mg (60ml) mixing kit - $22.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce
Platinum Ice E.Liquid Mixing Kit.

Most here will tell you the same - buy a good long lasting batteries and/or mods and fill them yourself - that is what I do and what I prefer.

But a lot of my friends are also elderly and many are handicapped. I also know a couple who are not so old and not so handicapped - but who do have more disposable income and very busy lives. Those types prefer sites like V4L - they buy a kit and pre-filled cartomizers that fit the type e-cig they bought - and have very little bother or fuss. From what I here V4L is one of the better of the one site does all type places as they have more flavor selections for their cartomizers then most - but as everyone here will tell you if you go that route you will have much less selection and much less fun and the cost will be more.

I just wanted to bring up this other side of e-cigs because being handicapped myself - filling re-filling carts and cartomizers is a time consuming chore and dripping means just that -constantly dripping one or two drops of e-liquid through a small hole- many people I know would still be smoking if they had to take the time and effort. If that is the case with you rest assured you can also enjoy e-cigs with even less time and effort then cigarettes -

There's an easy answer to this. Order a small bottle of pre-mixed juice and refill the carts you already have once they're done. The ones you have are blank carts, just pre-filled, so all you need to do is put a few drops of juice in one and try it. If you like it, fine. If you don't, you're out a few bucks. And it's unlikely you won't like it, because the only difference is you're choosing the juice yourself and putting it in the cart. That's what pre-filled carts are - same thing, done by someone else.

Definitely direct drip or refill. My first starter kit came with 5 boxes of 5 prefilled carts per box. In two days they were GONE lol. Once you get the hang of either method, you will see cost and enjoyment wise those are the best options. Welcome and Good Luck!

Direct drip or refill, what's the difference?

BTW, this is a great board. Very responsive and very willing to help newcomers.

direct drip (or "dripping") is when you just simply drip a couple of drops right into the atty and vape it either with an empty (no filling inside) cart, or use a 'drip tip' (which is just a mouthpeice with a hole in it to help funnel the juice down into the atty) Every 3 drops of juice will get about 10 puffs, then you have to drip some more.

Refilling (refilling cartomizers or "topping off" cartridges) is when you re-wet the carts or cartos that came pre-filled with your kit using your own juice from a bottle.

IN the long run, direct drip is less hassle IMO. I use a drip tip and it's easier than messing with (and modding) carts all day. BUT I do like cartomizers (which I do refill myself) for when I'm in the car or in bed.

I went to vapor 4 life's website as you suggested. First of all, what is a cartomizer? Is it an vaporizer with a cart combined in one? I see that sell bank cartomizers and what looks like filled ones that come in a box of 5. Are those intended to be refilled afterwards? How many packs of cigarettes is one of them equivalent to? What about 30 mil of juice?

Lastly, I see there are many flavors. Do most people get it in a flavor rather than just a plain tobacco taste?

BadHabit, what kind of PV do you have?

The parts are not all interchangeable, so if you already have a PV you must stick with parts that are made for the kind that you have. If you don't already have one, then the first step is deciding what you want your first PV to be able to do.

Are any of these parts interchangeable? Do they make PV's with any kind of international standard? For example, the Joye standard, etc.
