Here in South West Ohio we are expecting 4-6 inches. Looks like we will drop in temp and with wind chill be at 0.

Put my tarp over my windshied. That should help a little with snow removal tomorrow!

It is not near as bad as our Eastern friends are expecting. But for me it will be a real challenge just getting the van ready to go to work.

Hope all fare well in the coming storm. I do not do winter well though ice fishing sounds like fun. Is this what you all use for bait to catch ice?

I don't fish but ice fishing looks pretty fun. What people do around here is drive a snowmobile or truck onto the lake, set up several holes (drilling down through the ice, at the moment one needs to drill out over 2 feet of ice to reach water) with tip-ups so that when a fish bites a flag pops up. A shanty or little hut is set up somewhere in the middle of the holes so they can chill and keep warm inside. When a flag pops up in one of the holes they'll drive out to it and see what they got.

I live on a lake and see people out ice fishing all the time. I just don't eat meat so I don't bother but I've gone to hang out with them on ocassion and looks like loads of fun :)

The media does exaggerate, and honestly it's colder where I am, and likely where Rob is as well, than anywhere they talk about on the news. Does anyone around here care about cold and snow? No, LOL. Part of life here. We know what snow tires are, when to be out and when not to, and what kind of gear we need to have fun in the winter time. My favorite season of the entire year right here baby.

Edit just to say again, I DO understand why people would HATE it - especially older people as the cold takes a toll on bones etc. Around here, winter's nothing but lovely. We have carnivals and 40 foot ice palaces to celebrate winter love.

I'm sure there must be some creative displays in Boston Common?
I lived in Boston for awhile, loved it. Worked at The Hyatt Cambridge on the Charles River.
Hang in there!

I don't live in Boston, I live in the ADK Mountains :)
My partner's from Boston, I've spent some time there. Not a fan of cities at all, but Boston's right up there with Chicago in terms of my favorite of the big cities. Where did you live? I had another friend who lived in Jamaica Plain, such a cool part of town :)

Sorry, got lost in the thread trail. I just realized it was Rickajho that is from Boston.
I lived a little north of Boston in Nahant, little shoreline peninsula right up from Revere Beach.

Nice, I've heard of Nahant but never been, spent most my time in JP and outside the city in Holliston (that's where Chrissy's actually from, I just say Boston). JP has a hoppin' music scene I enjoyed. The closest big city to me now is Montreal but I've never been. I'm about 5 hours NW of Boston, 1.5 SW of Montreal. ~40 miles from Canada. That's why I say it's colder where I live than most places discussed in the news - if Boston's 0, we're at least -20. It was -50 here last night  that's even too cold for me and I'm a total winter freak haha

I know Holliston.
I was/am pretty much a beach bum so when I wasn't working I got out of the city and 'chilled' in quiet Nahant.
Dayum ... -50 degrees, THAT's hardcore!

It is hardcore a bit too much so really lol. Granted I'm factoring in wind chill, but it's the wind that penetrates and freezes stuff so much. We had some frozen lines last night and this morning. Without wind it was right around -30. You're in CT are you near the beach? I hiked half of the Appalachian Trail, and really enjoyed the CT section. Some beautiful scenery and rivers in the western part of the state. Never been to the east side but I bet it's nice too!

Yes live near Mystic, CT. right on the shoreline. I also have a little summer cottage in RI about 15 miles south of Newport. Close enough to my house ( 1 hour) that I go every Friday after work until Sunday night from May - October. :)
I work for Margaritaville so I 'm in my element with " toes in the water, ... in the sand, not a worry in the world, cold beer in my hand, life's a good thing". :)

You left out the (creepy?) whorls of vapor slowly dripping from the desktop to the floor, filling the room with a mysterious scent (vanilla?).

ROFL - picture this:

The temperature is -30. The wind chill is approaching -50. There's over 3 feet of snow on the ground, much of it blowing across your vision as you drive down a long, dark road, shrouded by very tall red pine trees intermingled with spruce and fir. Finally, you see a small glimmer of light. You have reached your destination - an all but deserted ADK Great Camp. You walk into the office. You see a young man sitting behind the desk wearing a long black hooded robe, with his head down. Slowly, he looks up at you. The wind howls outside the office door. All you hear is...

"Heeeeeere's Slothy!"

(This exact scenario has happened to people before, minus the "Heeeeeere's Slothy" part)

:)

Well, I made it to work! We probably have a couple inches of snow now. Will get more as the day goes on. It is the fluffy kind that is blowing around. Very easy to just brush off the cars. Roads are not good. They just can't keep up with the side streets. Very slick. It is so cold! With the wind it really cuts through you. My hands, in gloves, were very cold. My fingers started hurting from just a few minutes getting the van cleared then the drive to work. I live so close the van didn't have time to warm before I was here.
