Thats the most confusing part for me also, everything else is straight forward, the nic is the part I am still trying to understand.

My first DIY question, should I buy higher Nic and cut it down more (I normally vape 6mg) for cost effectiveness or buy 12mg base, for the ease of using 50% of that will get me my 6mg? :p
Since you only use 6mg, it really doesn't matter.
Depending on how many ml's your going to make, the recipe will call for so much PG, so much VG, so much flavoring, and so much Nic base.
IF, you used 20% flavoring total, and were vaping at 24mg, you would have a problem.
Since everything you add to the recipe dilutes the nic base, you would have to make sure your base was 3 times stronger than the % you vape
So, you can break your base down to what your comfortable with, and it should be OK, since you vape a low %
Now, that said... you are NOT going to break it down to 12mg, thinking you can use 50%, and be right on your 6ml. Recipes don't work that way.
The calculator, depending on how much your making, will tell you how much you need to add to reach your desired nic %.
Making any kind of a mix without using a calculator would be starting off on the wrong foot.

Download (it's free) the e-juice-me-up calculator just to play with imaginary recipes using various amounts, and you'll get the drift real fast of how you want to operate your "lab"
There are a lot of juice calculators out there, but I like this one.

Now, just between you and me, since your in California
I would buy a quart or so of 100mg, in your preferred base ..PG or VG
Save an old gallon booze bottle, pour the base into the bottle, and pour the equal amount of your non-nic (PG or VG) into it. Shake, shake shake, especially if VG is high.
WaaLaa, it's now 50% mg
Now, fill 4oz (120ml) colored bottles to the brim. Save the last partially filled one to work from.
Label, and put them in the freezer. That way you only need to take out one at a time when needed.
It will not freeze solid, as our freezers can't go that low, and .. it will shrink, not swell, so fill the bottles to the brim, to minimize the air in it.

There are scary stories out there about getting nic on your skin.
:danger: It's NO problem unless you want to bath in it.
Just rinse it off, and keep going.
If it makes you feel better, use rubber gloves
But make sure to keep it away from pets and kids.

Kept in the dark, in the freezer, nic will last for years.
The longest (that we know of) is 7 years, and it didn't lose it strength.
That should keep you going, depending on how much you buy, no matter what California does to kill vaping. :censored:

Not to "deter" you , but finding a good flavoring is like trying to find a good juice.
Each company makes a different tasting strawberry, you have to keep trying them to find the best for your taste buds .... something to look forward too
Have fun

The Reef just off the Florida coast
I did some math (yuck :p) and per 500ml, mixing down 100mg to 50 only saves me about a dollar.... I'll just buy the premixed 48mg, and save the effort :)
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.
And it's safer to work with.

    Somewhere between here and there
I use 36mg on all my diy. That way I don't have to keep gallons of pg and vg on hand. I use high flavor mixes so by the time I add the flavor then it's only a few drops of vg to get my liquid to the 24mg level I like.

the higher nic you buy, the less secured storage space needed, and the more PG/VG/flavoring you'll need to dilute with and the more accurate your measuring will need to be if you're mixing down very small batches for personal use. Lower nic can be as simple as, open a bottle only one time instead of many times, cut it 50/50-flavoring, shake and boom you're vaping. What are you comfortable with? That should guide your decision as much as the final unit price imo (p.s., WL is great nic. I bet you like it - a lot)

I vape anywhere from 3mg to 5mg nic right now and I used to vape 6mg (and if I get vendor eliquid I get 6mg). Currently I purchase 48mg nicotine or 36mg nicotine solution, just depends on what I can afford at the time. That way I use less of the nicotine solution and it lasts me longer. I use e-Liquid Calculator to calculate my mixes and save them there :)

    I'm thinking 48mg I'd what I'll go with
