When I first got my pro tank with the included 2.5 ohm heads, I was happily cranking away at 8.5 - 9 watts. After a week, the head became gunked up so I put in a 1.8 ohm replacement and it tasted burnt. Second 1.8 ohm head started tasting burnt so I lower the wattage all the way down to 7 and now I'm getting decent but not great results. Can the 2.5 ohm heads really handle more watts than the 1.8 or is it just luck of the draw (no pun intended)?

So I finally loaded up my new PTII, checked the ohm of the head and have the 2.5o head loaded (actually it is displaying 2.4o on my PV) I typically vape at 9.5w. First hit was horribly burnt taste. I backed the watts down to 6, and good taste (but not the warmth I prefer). Vaped a while at 6w until I was confident that the head was well soaked. Bumped back up to 9w- one hit horrible burnt taste. Backed it down to 6, and gradually bumped it up at .5 increments. 7.5 seems to be max. At 8.0 there is a slight burnt taste, and at 8.5 is bad burnt taste.

PV is Zmax.

Gotta admit the flavor is great at the lower watt, but absent the warmth that I prefer. Not sure I'm gonna be able to use the PTII

I'm back on another 2.5 ohm head, and am stuck at 7.5 ohms though I can say the flavor and throat hit are still better than the 1.8. Must have been a lucky head. The first (best) head did leave a tiny drop of juice on the battery terminal that none of the others have so perhaps it has something to do with airflow (the first was also more airy).

Can we please get some consistency, Kanger? I can put up with a tiny drop of juice if it means getting the performance I got from the first head. I was in vape heaven for a while, but now it's not quite as good.

The warmth was perfect for me at 8.5 - 9 watts. I guess we are still searching for the ultimate vaping device that doesn't require building your own (which I am extremely tempted to get in to).

I also have a PTII and am quite happy with it, although I enjoy cooler vapes. Regarding the original question of whether a 2.5 ohm head can handle more watts than an 1.8: a lower resistance coil doesn't require as much power to heat as one with a higher resistance. My APV is normally set in VV mode, so I can adjust the voltage based on what resistance coil is attached. From what I understand of VW is that you should theoretically be able to set a wattage and the voltage will be automatically calculated and applied by the device depending on what resistance it is up against. All devices do typically have an amp limit, so on certain coils, it will never fire above the that limit, which is most likely what you were experiencing with the lower ohm coil.

I don't think it was an amp limit. On the 1.8 heads, it would start tasting burnt over 7 watts indicating too much power. The original 2.5 ohm head would start tasting burnt over 9 watts, but was fine at 8.5 watts (and 9 when it could wick fast enough). I think it a variance in the product.

Yeah, I have no desire to go down the "build your own" route- I have other things I like to build/mess with, I just want my vape to work LOL.

I've gone back to the carto tank. I just can't handle the cooler vape of the PTII

Do you know what volts you are pushing thru that 2.5Ω head? If you are pushing around 5vdc you can get around that amount of power, if you leave the same voltage and put a 1.8Ω on, wattage goes up to quite a bit more...more wattage = more heat, more heat too fast = burnt juice

I've had a few miles on those coils (2.2 and 2.5), and every time I touched 9w on my Vamo, the juice burnt up pretty quickly.... I've settled between 7.5 and 8.5, and I rarely get a burnt one.

I did get an outlyer.. one of the 2.2 coils registered at 1.8 ohm. That guy, I couldn't go much higher than 7w before it started to scorch things... but that might have just been a bad coil and had nothing to do with the resistance.

Have you tried washing them out

A. Either boil them in water, or run as hot a water thru them as you can and blow them out 3x
B. soak them in eviclear overnight then do above

Do you use the normal analog drag on your rig (aka long hard lung filling drag) or do you use PV's method of puffing on it?

I used 3 to 4 second drags. Just washed it out and am waiting for the tank to dry. Hopefully, it helps but I have my doubts. The first week was amazing but I've been struggling with it since. I did soak the used heads in distilled water. May try boiling them but since no heads compare to the first one I'm not sure if cleaning the heads will help.

It should, I rotate with soaked coils and they last a while... I've been on my first 5 pack for a couple of months now.

I used the 2.5s on my ProTanks with VV/VW regulated mod and the 1.8s on my Mini ProTanks with eGos. It's been my experience with the 2.5Ω ProTanks they can only handle about 8.0Ω with my 50/50 juice. Perhaps a bit more with PG dominant juices. I never tried to remove the top wick, since I don't want flooding and gurgling.

ProTanks seem like ultralight cigarettes now that I've moved into safe, mechanical REO Grands with Reomizer 2 (RM2) RDAs. The bottom feed concept is dripping, the best of vaping, without the hassle. Do it one-handed, even when driving. It's even better than a 60 ring gauge cigar and I've never wanted to use the ProTanks since.

I highly reccomend at least rewicking on your own. I will pop the top off of a atomizer and remove the old wick. Then do a couple of burns to clean the coil and throw a new wick into it. Good to go. I'm using hemp twine which is much easier to rewick with than silica though. 200 feet for $15. This way I know when I put in a new head that there is never going to be any slight burnt taste. This method also makes it very easy to very the amount of wick material for draw, flavor, and juice thickness.
