Problem with battery and sub ohm vaping

I'm using SVD2.0 mod, rta, and 0.8ohm.

Running IMR 2200 20a batt, brand new.

When I vape at 20w, when battery gets down to about 74%, mod says check battery. If I lower it down to 18w, it wirks for awhile, then same problem. I have to keep lowering as I vape more, until it's down to 10w power.

Will buying a 2600mah 30a battery help? Or since the max amps in the mod is 6a, will it not matter?

Don't quote me, but I can't see it being improved with another battery.

Some mods (I don't have the SVD) have battery meters which are not exactly more than a vague guide. I do know that once the battery gets lower on many 'old' mods, the output starts to suffer. It might say "74%" but could be half drained in all honesty.

Since the max amps in the mod is 6 amps, it probably won't matter that much. Your paticular regulated mod can't really utilize the extra 10 amps (it needs at least 10 amps for the processer's boost circuitry); however, generally speaking the more mAh capacity a battery has the longer it will run on a charge.

I would consider trying one of the below Panasonic or Orbtronic models. These all have the required 10 amps CDR but have higher mAh capacity than what you currently have and what you were looking at. You can find these at Orbtronic.

What 2600 mah 30 amp battery were you considering? Although the Sony VTC5 is advertised as a 30 amp battery, it has been tested out to be only a 20 amp CDR. From what I understand, Sony has never officially listed the specs of their VTC5 series, and I think some vendors assumed it would have the same CDR as the VTC4 2100mah 30 amp CDR.

If you were considering a purple Efest, be aware that Efest is notorious for publishing over-rated specs for their batteries.

The SVD2.0 is limited to 20W, so a 20A battery is far more than enough for it. In fact it will work just fine with a 10A battery. The chip is limited to a 6A output. That's with a .5ohm coil and running it at it's 20W max. A 30A battery will make no difference whatsoever over a 20A battery.


Did you get the full kit with the SVD 2.0? If you did there should be a battery tester in the travel case. Use it to make sure your batteries are reading the correct voltage (Minimum of 3.1V) if they're above that then you'll probably need to return or replace the mod.

The SVD 2.0 uses the Evolv DNA20D chip which has a maximum of just 7A input. Even a 10A battery is more than enough for this mod. Going higher isn't going to make any difference at all because the chip will never draw more than 7A from the batteries.

Try cleaning all your contact points including cap, spring, threads, battery ends with alcohol. Dirty contact points can result in the low battery issue you're having.

I couldn't find info on the DNA20D chip, but datasheet for the DNA25 chip at Evolv states it requires a minimum of 10 amps from the battery.

+1. I'd be curious to see what an external voltmeter said about your batteries when they came out of the mod and it said they were "74%." Off the bat, sounds like a miscalibration in the mod.A battery with more mAh should extend your working time, but your shouldn't need more than a 10-15 A battery in that mod, it's not real high powered. You don't say how long you vape it before it stops.

Well, the mod doesn't actually say 74%, it's just a battery icon. I just guessed it was 74%.

Either way, why does it do this? How come as the battery depletes more, I have to lower the watts more and more? Does it have something to do with voltage? If so, what?

Ok, so the more amps won't help. But should a higher mah value help me vape longer before I have to lower the watts from 20?

One last question. If I'm running 0.7ohms and getting this problem, if I recoil to 1.0 ohms do you think I won't have this problem, or is that still too low? And how will the vapour production be affected going from 0.7 to 1.0?

If I still had an svd I would be running one of these. There reputable and so is the vendor

I remember the 20 doing this in the futura.

2 things.

the 20 used to be fussy about batt/voltage sag. And even internal batt resistance if I remember right.

It was also real picky about contacts being clean, spring snug n tight etc.

I had to play with a few diff batteries b4 I found a couple that were ok to me.
