Hi everyone,

Recently, I've had problems with replacement coils for my ego ones. I purchase packages (Joyetech 1.0 ohm) from my local vape store. I have 2 ego ones. One seems to be more problematic than the other.

The problems are:

- leaks through the air intake, particularly when using replacement coils from 1 of the 2 pkgs I have on hand.

- each time I unscrew the tank to refill juice the coil has unscrewed itself and is sitting loose in the tank.

- often, the coil itself has come apart ie 1 part of the coil has unscrewed itself from the other part and sits in the tank. I have to retrieve it by poking a Q-tip through the opening where the drip tip attaches.

I'm wondering if the problem is 2-fold. Faulty coils and/or the tank was improperly machined - that being the reason the coil has almost always unscrewed itself in the tank whenever I open it to refill juice.

The store manager offered to give me some new coils to try in addition, offered to replace the tank if new coils didn't remedy the problem.

Would you take her up on her offer of new coils or a new tank? Or both?

Thanks much!

I put in my coils and tighten them down with a rubber glove I keep around for the extra grip, never had a coil unscrew accidentally after I starting to do that

Thanks Rabbit Slayer, great tip. The odd thing is the 2 parts of the coil unscrewing as well (?) Something odd going on in the tank when no one's looking o_O
Cheers

Are you sure you didn't get the clr coils? I have had those come apart because...well they're supposed to be able to do that. The top screws up or down to regulate the juice flow...at least that is how it is supposed to work. I don't use the regular coils often, but never had one of those come apart.
Well, bust my buttons! I just looked at the box of coils and it says "clr". What does that mean?
Thanks for your reply!

CLR are the ones designed to be easily rebuilt/rewicked. They are the ones I use ... rewick about once a week with some KGD cotton, maybe dry-burn and rewick after two weeks (I use mostly unflavored so my coils don't gunk up much), maybe a new coil (or a rebuilt one) after a month and a half.

Like jadrew said, those are the rebuildable coils, but they can be used just like the others and just swapped as needed. I actually like them better than the standard coils. I have found that if you screw that top portion of the coil assembly down a little farther, they are less likely to grab and come apart when you refill your tank.

Thanks so much for the info. I am very new at vaping and the thought of rebuilding my own coils scares the heck out of me :)

Thanks Grimwald, interesting about screwing the top portion down further. I'll try to be a little less heavy-handed :) and see what happens.

Perfectly understandable -- I like the CLRs better than the CL (vertical coil, less easily rebuilt) and would use them even if I didn't rebuild.

You could also ease into it a bit by just rewicking. If you have a vape shop around they could probably show you how. Learning just this will give you quite a bit more usage out of each coil. (it does take a bit of practice to get a feel for the right amount of cotton, but the CLRs are pretty simple).

Thanks @jandrew ,I very much appreciate you taking the time to share info. I do have a vape shop nearby and one of the fellows offered to show me how to rebuild coils. I think the colour must have drained from my face as he quickly added "...or maybe start with rewicking?" :)
I may give rewicking some thought...in the future :)

UPDATE :

I visited the vape store this week where I purchase my replacement coils. The manager had offered to give me some new coils.

The staff member was aware of this but unfortunately they were out of Joyetech 1.0ohm replacement coils (???). She informed me they'd received a bad/problematic batch of coils (a-ha!!) and were awaiting their new shipment.

I thought others here might be interested in knowing there may be a bad batch of replacement coils floating around out there.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new shipment. ..I have ONE, lone replacement coil left. Egads!

Have a happy vape day.
