I Have the SS Vamo as well (ordered from Exhale) and it was said to have this same problem some spring. However, even vaping at 6 volts I've noticed no heat whatsoever on the spring/cap. It's a bronze colored, thick spring...is this the same one that others have had problems with? Or did the vendor replace it without mentioning so?

The spring that had issues getting hot or warm, were a dull silverish color.

Doh. I just ordered my SS Vamo from Exhale. I went ahead and ordered the helix spring from Avid after reading everything here.

Sounds like it's already going to have the new spring. Guess it doesn't hurt to have the extra spring? This will be my first APV, so I'm not sure if that spring is something that will ever need replacing.

I've just received a copper coloured replacement spring (gratis) for my newly acquired SS Vamo (thanks to David at esmoke.co.uk)

The new spring is non-magnetic, but obviously not copper as it's springy. Maybe an alloy

It's totally stopped the warm cap & has made a huge difference using a meshed Genesis tank with a single 3.7V battery at higher power.
I think the previous spring was too resistive to the higher current draw when using a single cell. Halve the volts supplied = double the current (W= IV)

Hi all, thanks for all the helpful info here. I too ordered a VAMO SS. I got it yesterday. I used it all afternoon, and I noticed the warm end cap on mine. That lead me here where I see others have had the same problem. I contacted Eric @ DV. He said he knew of this issue on the chrome models, but had contacted his supplier. Eric said he was assured the SS steel models had the spring upgrade. After an email or two it was apparent that I had one of the "faulty" springs. Mine was silver in color. The new one is more gold. Eric apologized, but it really isn't his fault. He offered to make it right, but for now I'm good. Here is what I did

I had an old maglite AA flashlight here on my desk. I took the spring out of it, and inserted it in the center of the original spring( two springs). It just "floats" in the center of the original spring. This took care of the issue. Fires instantly, and the end cap no longer gets hot. Another benefit to this was no more battery rattle (flat top 18650), and the end cap tightened up all the way without too much spring pressure. I wanted to post this in case somebody else like me wanted a quick and easy solution. Obviously, the spring I got with this VAMO is made of an alloy that has enough resistance to create a voltage drop across it (thus the heat), and the maglite flash light spring is of much better quality (little to no resistance). The reason it works like this ( both springs together ) is electricity will always take the path of least resistance. While this may not be a "perfect" solution it works well for me. Even attaching the end cap horizontally works as the original spring lines the other one up. Hopes this helps.

I will say that my experience with DV was excellent. This was my first purchase there, but not my last. Eric's response was very quick, and I can tell he really cares

I received my replacement Vamo from Vapor Bank
The new spring is a goldish color and I have had zero issues with any heat on the bottom.

Not when it's attached to the Vamo with a battery, does your spring rattle inside the cap? Mine does but not really an issue when in use.
