Problem with new for me Aspire Nautilus BVC tank

Good morning everyone,
I've had a PT2 for over a year. While I love the flavor, the coils only last a few a few days, there are lots of leaking issues, and I get dry hits all the time.

I finally switched over to the Aspire Nautilus BVC, and the flavor is really amazing. However, I'm still getting dry hits all the time. I bought it Wednesday, and have switched back between both of the supplied coils. I have washed both of them, and dry burned both, and they work for about 20 hits, then go back to dry. I have primed the coil every time.

It's gotten so bad now that I prime the coil, and it tastes amazing, then goes immediately to dry hits. So I prime every 10 minutes just so I can get some version of flavor.

Does this make sense to anyone? Am I doing something wrong or is it possible I just got 2 dud coils?

I vape sweedish fish, 10mg, 3.7v, 7w 50/50 PG/VG for what it's worth.

Hello @KILL_ROCK_STARS!

I run PT2s almost daily, but I've been rebuilding my coils for the past 16 months. I never have a leaking issue with those tanks, and the only dry hit I've had was when I forgot to turn down the power on my rig after running a SubTank with much lower-ohmmed coils.

I also run Nautiluses (Full and Mini), and as long as I prime the coil, I'm in good shape for at least 5-10mL on a coil.

The Nautilus BVC coils typically should NOT be dry-burned - they should be wicked with cotton (unless you have some of the old ceramic ones - even then, I would dry-burn them.)

You're running pretty low watts (I tend to run my Nautilus coils around 10W, but that's just *ME*) I think swedish fish juice is a darker, sweeter juice (never tried it myself!), but I would think you should be able to get through at least a tank or two before the coils get to snarky.

What airflow setting are you running on?

You may have just gotten duds.

I run the nautilus mini bvc between 10w-15w and when you get a good coil you'll love it. BUT, I've purchased 5packs of coils and managed to get two duds before. So, it's a kind of a bad coincidence if you did get two bad ones, but it's totally possible.

first try going though the wattages. I've found 7 to be a bit low on most liquids, and 10-15 is the sweet spot for me personally.

then

I'd grab some new coils and try that out. Mine generally last about 2 weeks for clear liquids and one week with dark liquids. I can usually rinse and re-use them once or twice.

Here's the other advice that I've seen around the forum:

1) cover your airflow with your finger, do NOT hit the fire button, and take a hard draw. (you basically FORCE the liquid into the coil)

2) take a needle and kind of pull gently at the cotton wicking through the holes that you use to prime the coil. (sometimes they are pretty packed in there and don't wick right, you're just going to "fluff" the cotton up so it can wick better)

I haven't tried these before. So I have NO IDEA if they work.
I usually just get annoyed and swap coils if I think I have a dud. But if you don't have coils hanging around, maybe this can help you.

You should prime them before you install them and then the only remedy for juice which (for some reason) won't wick fast enough is to follow the advice here

1) cover *most of the* airflow with your finger, do NOT hit the fire button, and take a hard draw. (you basically FORCE the liquid into the coil)

Some liquids don't play well. I personally don't use 50/50 and certainly not 70/30 (VG) either.

Dud coils are rarer than people suggest i.m.o. I've not had a dud in 14 months and 8 packs of replacements. It's mostly about knowing how to remedy the problems with juice that doesn't wick the best. At the right power and liquid, they are near perfect performers. :)

When you run a vape device with the airhole wide open all the time you are drawing in a lot of air and get a minimal amount of juice into your coil.

If your vaping rate is slow enough as to not dry out your wick then this is fine--------but if you get dry hits then proceed to next line below........

if you start to cut back on the airflow a little you increase the amount of ejuice that is drawn into your coil and you start to build a kind of a vacuum in your tank---which is good because the juice will flow some times better.

The atomizer must have the airflow adjusted to draw enough eliquid into the coil to keep up with your pace or rate at which you draw on it.

Also if you take long draws you can dry out the coil faster than short draws. if your voltage/wattage is set too high as a result of trying to get huge clouds---you can

dry out your wick faster than with a cooler less hot setting.

Like the above post said put your finger over the airholes and draw a few draws with out

pressing the firing button and this will start to draw some juice into the wick.

If your ejuice is too thick aka--30/70 then it will wick a little slower than say 50/50.
