i dont know what im doing wrong. i got a 3/32 in bit of ss cable (7/19) wrapped with a single layer of 500 mesh and a 6/5 wrap of 28ga. wicking is just the same as my previous solid and hollow wick setup. i am unable to get the vertical wicking ive seen in countless vids using the same materials and atty. i always some of the coils glowing red after a mere 5-7 seconds or so when held completly vertical, much less than the 20 + seconds i've seen in vids. any ideas? it works the same as just 500 mesh when vaped horizontally though. kinda disappointed, been waiting for this cable for a while, feels very anticlimactic.

yes and yes. the nylon thread was a red string i removed from the whole length before i cut it. i also torched it for several minutes, getting it red many times. i think it could be when i cut the rope that it crushed the ends of the strands together, compacted them too much perhaps? i'm wondering if it'll wick better after some time and the strands loosen a touch, but i'm not sure. i am also using max VG juices and it is 7/19 cable. but it said on the site the 7/19 is better for thicker liquids than 7/7. i know it's not because the kanthal is wrapped too tight because it's just a matter of wicking, it works fine when tilted. and the coils glow red because theres no juice on the wick. i mean, it is vapeable, but i was expecting a lot more than an identical vape to just ss mesh

I only use the 7/7. I have had better results (even with more VG based juices) with it.
Only other suggestions would be to remove a few strands from you rope (make ie a 7/17) and maybe this will allow better wicking on the thicker juice. Also. Make sure that you are not plugging too much SS mesh (that you use for your coil wrap) in the wick hole.

ohhhh, gotcha. i think i will keep my 7/19 as is. i think someone did a test where 500 mesh wicked all consistencies of juice better than 400 and 325, i would hope the same principle is involved here with the more dense cable. however, i will make sure my mesh doesnt go into the wick hole and just wrap it above the atty deck. right now, all my cable setups have the mesh surrounded well into the tank. will update when i try it out. thanks

also received some cable which I haven't tried yet, one thing to look at, which is kind of the same idea as not having the mesh below the deck is to make sure there is a decent gap between the wick hole and wick, I know this usually works great with other type wicks.

I have 7-19 1/18 rope. In my rsst it wicks none stop vertically. Tried it in my aga-t2 it does not work as well. I am trying to find out why myself basically the same One wrap of stainless steel on the top on my rsst I used ribbon eq to 28awg but on the AGA I used 28awg round. It does wick better then mesh but on AGA I have to slightly tilt to much and that one starts to flood too.

Holcom, did u mean 1/8in? I have this set up in my rsst as well, i tried a different method, to wrap the entire rope with ss mesh cus it was only 3/32 inch and it is tiny in the rsst wick hole. I used maybe 4 cm of mesh or so the whole length and i dont notice any difference, good or bad, from just covering the tip with one cm of mesh. I have only had vertical wicking for about 8 seconds max. But that was also after it was tilted for a while. I have some 5/64in rope too but im gonna exchange ot for 3/32 as all my wick holes are 2.5 cm or bigger. It is 7/19 as well. Anyone know if a smaller diameter cable wwicks better than the 3/32? Also do u do anything to the ends of te cable after its been cut? Im thinking to scrape the ends on some sandpaper in hopes itll fray out some of the strands in the bundles. Jeez, i hope itd work perfect right out of the gate... But hey, its not worse than regular 500 mesh in any way.

Ordered mine from ebay 316 SS. You can order it by the foot.

seller: tunit103

I ordered my First piece from here. Can't order per foot but I got 10 feet for less then a dollar a foot with free shipping. They didn't have the size I wanted in 316ss so I order from a different seller this time.

Seller: wilsonbuildingproducts

Wouldn't let me post links so I had to do the sellers name.

So holcom, u have a tiny tiny wick in the rsst then? Mind posting a pic? I might try on my 2mm rope as this 2.5 mm rope isnt working for me, dunno why.

Dhomes i did get it from avidvaper as well. I only needed 4 ft, 2 of 3/32 and 2 of 5/64. Also the guy who works there, frank, dropped it off at my house as i live right near where they are based. no shipping, just gave him a 10 dollar bill. No point in buying 10 ft and pay 6 bcks for shipping cus each wick will last indefinitely and i get eight wicks per foot. And ill have 11 gennys total when my shipment comes in from other sites. Thats almost 3 wicks per atomizer which is like a few years worth theoretically.

Vape atomizer mesh is a uk site and they sell a meter for under 2 bucks and then 6 bucks shipping. Thats proly a good bet. They have 2, 2.5 and 3mm cable. I think i should have just gotten it from them because 3mm is a better fit for the rsst. 5/64 is too thin, the guys at avid said i can swap out one of my 5/64 for another 3/32. Solid customer service.

I'm using a 2/3 wrap of 28ga kanthal on 7/7 SS cable with center strand removed & with 1 & 1/2 turn of mesh under the coil on my iHybrid Pure & I can't for the life of me get the complete vertical wicking like in this video:(-->Pure SS Cable Vertical Wicking<---)

The title of the video says "3/32 7x7 steel cable wick", I got my cable at Osh & I believe it was listed as 7/7, not 7x7 (I could be wrong though) & I don't remember seeing 3/32 in the description of the cable, could that be my problem? Is there a difference between 7x7 & 7/7 or are they the same thing? If I try to fire it vertically I start getting hot spots in about 4sec, however when I do the "Genny Tilt" it wicks just fine, about the same as a SS mesh wick, I think the cable performs a lil bit better but I really didn't notice much difference. So like the OP is asking, what the BLEEP am I doing wrong????:mad: Frustrated newbie here that can use all the help I can get. As long as I do the tilt it actually Vapes really nice, good vapor, throat hit & EXCELLENT flavor, however I just don't understand why I can't get the vertical wicking, Ive tried 4 different ways of wrapping the coil, positioning the wick/mesh etc to NO AVAIL, ITS DRIVING ME MAD!!! If anyone can help with this I will be VERY GRATEFUL!!!! Thanks for your time fellow Vapers.

I know this is prob not helping you but I have up on ss rope wick. Same problems as you PLUS a strong metallic taste to it. People swore it wicked like crazy but I found it didn't wick any better than a good solid ss mesh wick(I used 7/7 and 7/19 btw). Taste...let me just say it tasted like I was vaping off of a dirty playground pole. That's after torching it bright white almost 15 times. It also gets tanks HOT and literally cooks/burns your juices after vaping it for 5 mins due to it getting so hot. I heard it gets decks so hot it starts melting the silicon plug that seals the deck/tank and the positive pin/screw.

I think this ss rope wick was a total fad. Only other wicking material in a genny that was good was fc2000 but that needed days of break in and was too fragile.

Either way ill keep an eye out on this thread to see if so e solutions are found and see how you get it working. Who knows, I might even give it another go. Oops, I forgot that I can't get over the metallic taste. Just tastes extremely unhealthy.
