You said the same kind of thing happened with different flavours, didn't you? If they weren't all creamy, for instance if some were tobaccos, as much as custards may be partly the culprit, there may be something else there. It could be PG, it could be VG and it could be the nic, sometimes people develop allergies/intolerances that they previously hadn't. Since we're not medical professionals (at least, I'm not), I think you do well in seeing your doctor. But what you possibly really need is to test your sensitivity to PG, VG and nicotine - I know it isn't that easy, normally they're only prepred to check other kinds of allergies. Although, I'm really not certain any of those can cause your throat to close like that, all I can remember is headaches, sore throat etc., but I'm not checking. Good luck, hope all will be ok.

it could be as simple as you developing an allergy to vanillin (in the 'creamy'), easily remedied, or it could be a sign of progressive COPD damage from your smoking years. You may end up just needing a rescue inhaler like albuteral, but do see a doctor. Don't be scared, it's probably more likely an allergy, but please come back and let us know what the doctor said.

"Dynamic intrathoracic tracheal compression during expiration has been understood for years (2). During flow-limited breathing, the trachea becomes compressed and can be almost completely collapsed during forced expiration and cough."

"patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, symptomatic asthma, and obesity are often flow-limited (4). Bronchoscopic or radiologic detection of expiratory tracheal compression should trigger a search for causes of airflow obstruction within the lung, not the trachea"

Are all the flavors that you are having problems with from the same vendor? Have you used flavors from this vendor with no issues before you started having problems? If so, I would try contacting the vendor to see if they have changed anything in their supply line recently, such as what they use as a sweetener or where they get their sweetener from, did they change vendors for their flavorings, nicotine or pg or vg, etc. You could also try getting a small bottle or two of eliquid from another vendor, and see if you have the same reaction.

My daughter and her boyfriend are very sensitive to artificial sweeteners. My daughter feels like her throat is closing up when she accidentally has something with artificial sweeteners, and her boyfriend gets severe migraines. So far, neither of them has had problems with the eliquids that we use, but we are all aware of their problems and keep an eye out for reactions.

When you see your doctor, be sure to let him or her know about any allergies or sensitivities that you may have. This may help narrow down the cause of the issues you are having.

I really appreciate this! I'm medically oriented so I was looking for "dynamic intratrachial compression" and words of that nature, thanks! This gives me more to go on on Fri when I see my Dr. But I'm really thinking she'll only refer me to an allergist or someone who I've got to do the legwork to find. And I'm lazy. Actually I was hit by a car and had my leg run over by an old lady in her car 2yrs ago so I'm not that mobile, it really messed me up. So not lazy, just disabled. Why don't Drs know everything like they used to instead of there having to be all these Specialists?! Rant rant, I know but...!
I just got back from the store and it happened again - IN the store. I was SO embarrassed and nobody would help me for the longest time. Finally a nice man saw the old lady coming and gave me some napkins. My son said to just quit vaping. Easy for HIM to say! Now I'm scared of my EVOD!! But yes, thank you, I will let you know what happens next Friday and thanks for your help and care, you guys are the best!

That's a good idea as well, thank you! I'll contact MBV. And let you guys know so if you start experiencing this after 2 yrs...!

Also (she said in reply to herself...) I did notice my cough went WAY down when I switched to the 510. I didn't have any issues until about 6 mos into using the EVOD tho. I have been using MBV's juices pretty much exclusively, at first I was vaping an off-brand my BF got at the gas station he works at. But then I found MBV, they're semi local, being in Bellingham and I in Seattle so not only did they get here faster, I liked the "Made in WA" idea. I'll ask Dr about the vanillin and will email MBV to see if I can get a list of ingredients from them for the ones I use most, and possibly could learn where they get their PG & VG from, too. If they don't tell me I'll threaten w a lawsuit. Kidding! Hopefully this can be resolved, thanks everyone, and keep coming up w scientific names, those I understand! :)

I would politely remind them that you are a long time customer who uses their eliquids almost exclusively, and recently started having health issues. Let them know how much you enjoy their flavors, etc. Let them know you are not asking for formulas, just trying to eliminate all possibilities with regard to your issues. Ask for contact information for someone higher up in the chain, if necessary.

I hope things get resolved for you soon, and that you can get back to enjoying vaping.

You are seeing a doctor this is wise! IThere are numerous conditions and situations that can mimic the symptoms you describe and of course you can google them however in the meantime I would like to encourage you to do what ever you can to relax. Being able to relax or reduce your stress in whatever way you know is right for you is smart! , ie warm baths, music, walking your dog, getting enough sleep anything that has been helpful in the past can only be helpful now. Worry, tension,s stress and fear make all things worse. You will find the answer. Best to you

After having read your latest reply, Tippy, I'd give up the juices you've been using and wouldn't even go near that shop as there seems to be something bad for you in their formulas. There are so many juices to choose from, try to choose them as sensibly as you can and let us know the results.

Seeing an alergologist is a good idea too, even if the results may be inconclusive.

Good that your seeing a doctor! Do it quick!

It could be unrelated to vaping also. I had an infection in one of my tonsils that moved into my throat and completely closed it off. If I hadn't had gone to the er and had 4 surgeries I would be dead right now. I actually almost didn't make it in time to the er, my throat closed completely on the operating table and they had to trach me. Not fun waking up and realizing your not breathing through your face anymore, but through a hole in your throat with a tube sticking out.

Just my 2 cents here. If it was an allergy Tippy could try taking benadryl to see if it alleviated the symptom. Otherwise I'd consider it a sensitivity.
Given the cost of health care for most of you I'd think that might be a good plan rather than immediately booking an Allergist's appointment. :)

I suggest you see a doctor... I broke my back two years ago and the medicine for pain, gave me Barretts
esophagus, which at times it is hard to swallow. It may be something in your juice you are allerigic to also.. I still think I would check with a doctor.. I have many allergies, and asthma, but never had a problem with vaping. I make all my juices so I know what is in them, but I have purchased a couple and didn't have a problem with them.

Yeah, see a doctor and after he asks the eliquid composition get back to your supplier. The supplier will get back to you with composition as nicotine, pg , vg AND flavors. The flavor aspect , if it needs to be investigated, could set you off by a couple of thousand dollars in tests.

Or you can simply go the diy way, like others suggested and try flavorless with varying pg and vg.. Doctors cannot do anything on something that was never tested. No literature exists on eliquids and their effects.

Cream, custard, butter, "smooth", bready, and many flavors which simply want a tiny bit (unnoticeable to the taste buds) of those essences use diketones, all of which (afaik) are bronchial irritants. The "creamy" of the White Tea/Creamy Berry is undoubtedly mainly a diketone or related flavoring chemical. And many flavorings which don't suggest cream/bread notes, such as many "Red"s have significant diketone levels, because they can help round flavor profiles.

PG could be a culprit, VG could be a culprit, and flavorings are almost universally suspect as potential culprits. Nicotine is rarely a culprit, but some people become sensitized to nicotine (usually via analogs, though) to the point that any tobacco product, NRT, or other substance with relatively high nicotine (read: e-liquid) gives immediate and obvious adverse reactions.

Your doctor is definitely the one to ask about all of these. You should work with your doctor, hopefully drawing up a plan to identify and eliminate any culprits for you.
