most folks get burned on their first e-cig (pardon the pun) i did too. Crappy little 401 knockoff. but it kept me going for a week until i got a joye 306 minifogger now i have a 510 and a kr808 adapter and am awaiting an ego. (well some people say i have one)

If you are short on cash--read up on this stuff here first --post questions about what to get (i'd say try a no box 510 from cignot.com $35with a couple bottles of juice $10-20) but don't read too-too much or you will blow tons of money on all the cool gadgets.

For now i am reconciled to spending three times my cigarette habit ($25 a week vs. about $75) but my hardware collection and juice assortment are steadily growing and the anxiety about whether i can stay off analogs is fading--i have lots of fun mixing up a nice little bottle of menthol cinnamon cappuccino and/or switching flavors through the day.

It sounds like a knock-off brand, so it probably won't perform with the 'best' results. You shouldn't be too bummed though. You did take the first step into ditching those cancer sticks! And thats what is important.
Now, you simply have to make those adjustments to finding what works best for you.
If you have some extra cash to spend, I would recommend picking up a Joye 510. That seems to be the most popular among new users (heck, I've been vaping for 7 months and its my go-to PV). Its a little bit wider and slightly longer than a 401 (if u do infact have a 401 knock off). You can find cheap starter kits on most of the registered suppliers. Litecigusa.net is good one that offers free shipping on orders 15 bucks or more. cignot.com is another good one.
If you are stuck on that specific model, then Id recomment getting a true 401. You can find them around as well. I got mine from truesmoker and I love it being my first PV.
Reguardless of what you decide to do, just remember some models that work for other users, might not always be the best for you. It'll take time to find your niche, but it'll be worth it! hope this helps.

I agree look around on the forums, I have the Joye510 and it's a great e-cig to start with. You can get a really good deal as the other posters mentioned, Cignot for one. You won't believe the difference in performance if you get the 510. Do some research and ask questions I'm sure you'll find what works for you. Good Luck!

My e-cig only gives a strong hit on the first drag, then after that the smoke goes away and seems like im smoking air. i have the firelight brand. I cannot give up cigerettes if i have to smoke this. The first hit is great like a real cig. I wonder if its my atomizer or the ecig itself. Any suggestions?

Firelight was a link on the internal Philip Morris website so I don't know how much of a knockoff they are. Having the biggest cigarette manufacturer mention & post a link gotta make you think what PM is up to.

As for your issue, sounds like you need a cart mod not a new e cig. Seems the e liquid is not flowing to the bridge of the atomizer after the initial puff so the Atty gets dry.

Do you have any juice? Try dripping or dipping some on the atomizer and taking a draw. I would guess the cartridge is not wicking properly and so it dries up fast. If you wait five minutes and then draw again, do you get another strong hit?
Depending on your model, there are several cartridge mods which may solve your problem without having to buy a new unit (until you are ready to commit)
Check out the cartridge modders forum for PTB, Blue Foam and /or the simple cart mod (I use that one, and it works great)

I have never heard of that brand but I would suggest that you get a DSE 510 to start with to see how you like it. If you got the model you have from a gas station or mall it is probably junk. Don't blame yourself, a lot of people don't know until they find this forum and can start asking questions.

Has anyone read the fact that his first puffs are excellent? I'm very new to this whole e cig thing but not new to trouble shooting & from the symptoms it's the cart. Why tell the OP to buy another er cig just because you have never heard of it yourself and if it was any other known brand with the same symptoms everyone would yell all types of different cart mods.

Start with a low to no cost cart mod first before you go out and spend another $80-$100 on a new kit.
Battery & Atty working & first puff good does not equal buying a new kit.
