Gotcha.... Hmmmm
I bet a little tin "Bridged clip" on the spring end would do it. I'll see what I can come up with, May be as simple as crimping a 1/8" wide strip of tin or very thin spring steel accross the contact end of the spring with a convex 3/32" dimple in the center... Gotta do some fiddlin' around with it.

Steve,

This is a simple cardboard strip as an example, But I think you'll understand what I'm talkin' about. You'd simply fold the ends under the top coil of the spring and crimp firmly and... WahLah! No more battery to spring contact issues to deal with.:)

Good advice. I was certain that I had "fried" an 801 atty with the Prodigy, but then tested it with a standard 801 battery and it was fine. I then disassembled the Prodigy, made sure all of the contacts were clean, re-attached the atty, and everything worked fine.

This was a difficult problem to diagnose, because it was not clearly reproducible. When I checked the Prodigy with a multimeter, all of the voltages looked correct. When I ran across the same problem a few days later, I randomly unscrewed the adapter (a quarter turn or so) while attempting to vape, and all of a sudden, the device sprang back to life.

This leads me to believe that the problem was the contact between the battery and the grounding spring, as others have suggested. By unscrewing the adapter a little bit, I think that the alignment of the spring and the battery changed, providing the solid ground that was not present before. Since then I have been very careful to align the spring with the battery, and have had no problems, so I'm thinking that must have been the cause. Or I might be a superstitious ...... These alternatives are, of course, not mutually exclusive.

I too thought I had a problem with a blown atomizer, nothing from my Prodigy, and then I thought it was the battery contact. Well I changed atomizers and it start working again BUT the funny thing is the atomizer that I thought was blown with the Prodigy worked fine on another one of my 801, Weird. I don't know why this was happening, but that certain atomizer won't work now with the Prodigy but works well with another 801 device. I agree don't throw away your atomizer too soon.
This is weird can anyone explain this?

I have rigged, tweaked and customized every part of the prodigy and the simple way to fix the spring to batt connection is simply slicing off the small plastic ring around each battery(neg. side only). Not only does is never miss the connection on the spring, it never fails on the charger as well.

On some atty's (Janty for instance) the threads are a bit too long and bottom out before the center post makes good contact. Try a forum search for "Staple mod". I've heard others had good luck with that method.:)

I would caution against removing much of the plastic shrink wrap from a protected cell like the Tenergy. The plastic wrap is what holds the battery components together. Check this link for a few pics of internal components of a protected cell. although the link is for an 18650 cell, It is representative of most protected cylinder shaped cells. Has anyone who took off the plastic around the batteries had the issue where a battery gets EXTREMELY hot, very, very quickly?.. One of mine got so hot so fast i thought it might explode in my face or something.. Probly shouldn't have taken off all the plastic huh!

Also my penstyle atomizers keep dying, but i've noticed that it always seems to happen right after i add a few more drops of juice. Not sure why that might be. I tested them on other non-prodigy e-cigs and still nothing. soaked and cleaned them all, and like.. one of them came back to life, but the others didnt.

Just not sure why topping up my atomizer seems to kill them on the prodigy. They don't get super hot, or pop or anything, they just silently stop working.. But since one of them did kinda come back to life a bit, i'm wondering if there's maybe some way to revive'em still.

...thats a lot of user unfriendly tweaks for a $180 product. imo for that price it should just, well, work without bending, rotating 1/8th, sliding tubes in, peeling batteries, usuing meters, etc.

that said, i've had mine for 2 weeks. great vapor experience. will need to get better batteries and charger (came with cheap set) and blew an atty on the first day. but it does deliver a nice kick.

keep it wet. keep it clean.

thanks for the info regarding alignment of batteries and cleaning info as this will hopefully help keep the investment in good shape

Well i sent back my prodigy with 7 atty's it fried.
Since the atty's did not work on a janty stick after that I assumed they were dead.
Thanks for posting the multimeter pictures and how to measure Ohms.

So what's the deal with this prodigy?
What the hell is going on ?

Could someone summarize what to do?
Where are the problems?

THANKS GOD !! THE PASS THROUGH WORKS...

I'm getting a little irritated with all this fiddling about...
I love vaping but this is getting a tad out of hand...

Maybe we are all possessed by the vaping deamon?
