Prodigy question:

Thinking seriously about ordering one of these to use with my 901 attys, mainly because I like the idea of not having to depend on the future supply of factory batteries. I'm not really a dripper, though...

How does the Prodigy perform just using PTB refilled cartridges?

I'm on day 3 of Prodigy use, I was mainly a dripper when I used the Screwdriver as my main device, it runs at 3.7 volts, using a 901 atty. I dripped with the Prodigy for the first few hours, then decided to try my dura carts on it since it gives such awesome hits. It works very nicely, gives a better hit than the SD does drippin, which is saying alot. Just keep your cart relatively wet, which means alot of toppin off using a 901 cart, the dura carts I use hold 2-3 times what the 901 cart does. I love this thing, batteries last me 8-10 hours, not much of a dropoff before I change them, I change them at 10 am, and 6 pm, just to keep a sched.

Where can one buy dura carts for a 901? I have seen this a lot on the forum, but don't know the difference.

You can buy Dura carts from the Janty usa site. They are not made "for" the 901 atty's, they are a little loose, I take a hemo (small pliers) and squeeze the top of the atty just a tad, and the Dura cart fits in snug, works awesome with the 901 atty's and the Prodigy/SD. I like the Dura carts because they are round, and hold way more juice than 901 carts.

Beginning to sound like the Prodigy probably isn't for me after all. All I'm really looking for is a nice device that will let me use my 901 atty and give me the choice of using more standard rechargeable batteries. Not really crazy about the Silver Bullet.

Have you looked at the SD? It is a much loved (primarily) 901 device, using very cheaply obtained rechargeable batteries.

Checked the websites on both of those and still leaning towards the Protege. The SD looks cool and well-made but I'm not crazy about the switch placement. The Chuck seems nice also, but again, the switch mechanism looks a little.. flimsy?

I dont understand what turned you off the Prodigy? It uses more standard batts than the SD, 3 volt cr123's are easier to find in the usa than 3.7 volt that the SD uses. It can use several diff atty's with adapters, and the battery life and vape production are second to none. I wouldn't recommend anything less myself. The protoge is just a usa made screwdriver , runs same batts 3.7 volt, same size etc. Just diff button placement.

I guess the bottom line is.. I'm not a dripper. I like to refill carts and run off them as well. From what I've read the higher voltage of the Prodigy will be tougher on attys if i don't keep them good and wet. I'm ok with the draw on my 901 now, I'm just looking for something that will allow me to continue vaping if standard 901 batteries become hard to get down the road...

You can run the Prodigy at 3.7v with Tenergy 18650 (2400 mAh batts) and the switch they offer without a resistor. Just make sure that's what you specify when you order. That batt will last for days. The only advantage of the Protege is that it is a smaller unit. Very tempting...

From what I have heard from folks who have gotten the Chuck, it's a pretty solid, heavy duty switch. Check out the comments here:

There has been success with using carts and the Prodigy. No problem there.

I'm dying to see what mine is going to look like. I ordered a bit of custom work on mine. I'll be glad to not have to run through batteries every hour on my 510. I'm thinking about getting the 6V adapter so I can give it a try, too.

Not me. I can't complain about the job my 901 does, I just wanted a longer-lasting battery (and getting a bad-... Mod to tote around... bonus!). BTW I pm'd Jeff about getting the new textured black finish one as well.
