How do I stop getting notifications for new items in the product section?

I have no interest in these things.

I won't be buying these things.

They are an annoyance.

It's not the ads I want to stop - they're pointless as far as I'm concerned because I'm not in the USA, but they are easy to ignore. I scroll past the things lol.

Notifications, however, annoy me. And the fact that I'm forced to go into the section, find the unread post and select it, just to get rid of the blasted thing is not on.

I'm more likely to boycott the companies who are part of this simply because it's being forced on me.

It does take a few steps, Big Me, but it's possible to streamline your method a bit.

Hover over the down arrow (under the number) and a sub-menu will open up. You can then select "mark read". Yes, the product section will then open, but I just back up to the page I was on.
