Hi everyone, I am trying to figure out how to purchase a wall adapter. In terms of mA- I was initially sold an adapter that when I pulled it out of the wall the whole back plate pulled away leaving the prongs and front plate in the outlet. Only used a few times. innokin sent me the specs I should use: 5V 1000mA- the one I was sold was 500mA. Was it dangerous to use that one? And can I use one that is 5V 2100mA or do I have to stick to 1000mA? Thanks. OH-- forgot to mention it is for a Coolfire 4 which is 2000mah.

Yes it was most likely dangerous to use an unknown 500 mA USB wall adapter when the specification was 1,000 mA. The adapter is rated for the current (mA) that it is safe to use at. The charger is built into the mod and the one in the Coolfire 4 will draw (ask for) almost 1,000 mA of current. The adapter will give it that 1,000 mA and if it's rated safe at less than that unless it's a smart adapter that will limit it's output to what it can handle will put out the amps asked of it and heat up.

I have a VaporShark DNA40 mod that has a 2500 mAh battery in it and the only way to charge it is through the USB connection. The VS has a quick charger built in that completes a partial charge in about an hour. I tried charging with a dumb 1A (1,000 mA) adapter and it got really hot. I then bought a good quality 2.1A adapter and have not had any problems with it. It warms up a bit, but it handles it well enough for me to be comfortable with it. Not all adapters are created equal though and I would not do this with a $4 adapter no matter what the specs on it were.

You can use any good adapter that has a rating of 1,000 mA or more. The charger in the mod will not take more than 1,000 mA from the adapter.

ETA: I just read your other thread Elizabeth. The port you use on an adapter needs to have the proper amp rating. My adapter will put out a maximum of 2.1 amps between 2 ports, but it will deliver all that to one port if the other port is not used. With the two ports in use it splits the 2.1 amps between them.

Thank you Ryedan. I think I'm beginning to understand. When you say "dumb" adapter do you mean generic, cheap? Also where do you find good quality adapters? Thanks again for taking the time!

There is no problem in using a charger with less current, it will just take longer to charge (and is actually better for the life of your batteries in the long term). I would not recommend going above the spec Innokin gave you :2c:
If you really want to know if the higher current charger is okay to use, you should probably ask them since they know the product and if the battery is safely able to take that much charge current. They probably have a reason for only recommending the 1000mA charger

This is wrong, and dangerous advice.

The output of the wall adapter MUST be 1000ma (1amp) or more. Anything less than 1 amp puts the user at risk. (Fire, explosion, etc)

Ok so Haadkoe, it is alright to use the 4 port usb adaptor with output of 2100 mA- I would not be using other ports? This is why I am confused as there seems to be opinions on the forum. I know that I am ultimately responsible for researching and coming to my own conclusions- I just wish I had a mind for this.
So after all the info I decided to plug it in- it's charging pretty fast and there is a little warmth, not much. So if I'm understanding correctly, I could charge both Coolfires on this adapter at the same time but nothing else?

Yes, you'll be safe using that wall adapter so long as you only use one of the ports.

Technically you could charge both coolfires at the same time, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it because it would be potentially running that adapter at it's absolute limits. You would be better off picking up a second adapter, or charging one at a time.

You may already have a spare adapter kicking around and not even realize it. Most new cellphones come with wall plug USB adapters, and many of them have 1-2 amp output. If you happen to have any laying around have a look at them, they'll have their output power written on them in fine print.

So the charge was successful- battery remained cool and it charged pretty quick. I was just posing a question about 2 Coolfires with the thinking that if Innokin suggested 1000mA that with 2100mA I could safely charge 2 at the same time. Hey, I won't do that- just trying to make sense of all this. Thanks to all who replied. I hope that this thread will in it's small way help to clear up some conflicting info out there. Thanks again Haadkoe.
