EU Commission proposes tobacco Products Directive that would ban e-cigarette products containing more than 4mg/ml of nicotine, and would ban sales of e-cigarette products containing more than 2mg of nicotine (i.e. e-liquid).

Worst case has come to pass, now we know exactly whats at stake we need to move against this.
This level of regulation is in effect an outright ban, their will be no market for anything that low and anything higher will be a NCT and less attractive to smokers. Especially with the modified health warnings attached to their high street cousins.
I would say that the prohibitionists have got their way but I fear that they are just a convenient fiction for parma protection.

Its time for EU e-cigarette consumers and companies to contact their EU representatives urging them to remove the e-cigarette provisions of the Tobacco Products Directive (or to increase the maximum amount of nicotine in e-cigarette products to 45 ml/mg and to 10 mg for e-liquid).

Need contact information for all EU commissioners.

Anti tobacco groups in the EU will urge EU commissioners to approve 100% of the proposed Tobacco Products Directive, but probably won't mention anything more about e-cigarettes (as they are going to concentrate their lobbying efforts on graphic warnings for cigarettes, on plain packaging for cigarettes, and on banning flavored tobacco products).

So if EU commissioners receive lots of complaints about the proposed nicotine limits for e-cigarette products (which is essentially a ban), they'll be more receptive to amending or removing those provisions.

Outstanding show in the post above mine, and every vaper on earth should watch it.

The FDA workshop, the British American Tobacco (BAT) purchase of Intellicig, the publication of the new EU Tobacco Directive...
The balls are rolling in many directions, and the battle for the future of electronic cigarettes has begun...

Thank you for posting this hifistud. I think this is a video all Vapers should watch!
We live in an electronic social media world.
Network the video via Facebook and with those in our electronic phone books.
History proves ... Social media pressure has resulted in banks changing their policies.
We've seen social media at the center of bringing down governments.
Food for Thought

Some analyses of EU TPD and news stories. E-cigarette consumers and companies need to generate lots of calls, letters and visits to EU Commissioners, and more news coverage.

EU Commission's "Citizens' Summary" makes many false claims about proposed Tobacco Products Directive, including:
"The present revision will establish an ambitious and effective regulation of tobacco products."
"Citizens will be enabled to take informed decisions about the products and quitting if they so wish and thus benefit in terms of health."
"Current smokers will also benefit from the measures proposed in the Directive."
"The new rules allow products to move more easily across the internal market and take particular account of the specific needs of small and medium-sized companies."
"Citizens in all EU Member States should benefit from the same high standards for health and safety." "Ideally the new Directive will be adopted by the European Parliament and the Council in 2014."

EU Commission falsely titles infographic about cigarette smoking "Tobacco in the EU" to deceive public about huge differences of risk between cigarette smoking and other types of tobacco use.

EU Commissioner Tonio Borg praises himself for proposing draconian Tobacco Products Directive that would kill millions of smokers by denying them legal access to far less hazardous smokefree alternatives.

Responding to the proposed EU Tobacco Products Directive, Philip Morris International correctly states:
"that many of the recommended measures will not achieve the Commission’s public health goals and will result in numerous unintended adverse consequences which appear to have been disregarded by its authors."
"the Commission’s proposal ignores the massive black market for tobacco products which already costs member states 10 billion euros annually, but advocates measures that will undoubtedly fuel its further growth." and
“In addition, the proposal would significantly limit consumer access to, and information about, products that have the very real potential to reduce the harm caused by conventional tobacco products. In doing this the Commission has chosen not only to stifle innovation but also to ignore the potential these products have to improve public health."

The fingerprints of drug companies and their funded prohibitionist groups (that claim to be public health groups) are all over the proposed EU Tobacco Products Directive.

But nobody should be surprised, as they've been exposing and boasting about details of the document during the past two months since Dalli resigned.

Please remember, however, this is proposed legislation, the process has a long way to go (several years), and it can be altered or rejected.

On the positive side, the proposed Tobacco Products Directive will cause sales of e-cigarettes and especially e-liquid to skyrocket even higher for the foreseeable future throughout Europe, as many vapers are going to start stocking up for the long haul just in case the Directive's e-cigarette and e-liquid prohibition policy is approved as proposed.

Back in 2008, the National Rifle Association started a rumor that gun sales would be banned in the US if Obama was elected President, which caused sales of guns and amunition to skyrocket. And in the past week (since the tragic killings of CT school children, and politicians talking about more gun control laws), gun sales in the US have skyrocketed once again.

A similar spike on e-cigarette and e-liquid sales is likely to occur in the US if/when the FDA proposes the "deeming" regulation to apply Chapter IX of the FSPTCA to e-cigarettes and e-liquid (unless the FDA exempts e-cigs from many different Chapter IX regs).

While this is proposed legislation, here in Ireland it seems to have been well prepared for and fully intended to go through.
This went up today;
Public Consultation on a proposal for an EU Directive on the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD)

And hers the welcom anouncment from health minister James Reilly; Minister James Reilly welcomes the publication of a proposal for EU Directive on Tobacco.
Note the subtle lie as per usual,
The proposal seeks to regulate tobacco products in a way that reflects their specific characteristics (nicotine has addictive properties) and the negative consequences of their consumption (throat and lung cancer, cardiovascular problems etc).

That's not subtle.

This part is an overt lie: "and the negative consequences of their consumption (throat and lung cancer, cardiovascular problems etc). "

It's like saying "Drinking beverages leads to liver damage, traffic accidents, violence, and brain damage." (Ooops, all I did was leave out the word "alcoholic" before the word "beverages." My bad!)
