Ok guys I saw that in order to get more vapor from protanks I could replace the wick with cotton. So I did. At first it was a harder draw (good thing) and better flavor but not much more vapor. Then the gurgling and liquid shooting into my mouth started. Any advice? It's 2.2ohm using a sigelei Vmax v3 if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Also I'm thinking about a rebuildable mod. What should I look at?

When you get a tight draw on the protank it will flood. Your creating a vacuum in the chimney and drawing in extra juice. Make sure the cotton isn't blocking air flow, our just use less of it. It's a balancing act with cotton to get just the right amount in there. To much and it floods, or you just get dry hits (which are terrible with cotton). To little and it floods. Took me about half an hour the first time wicking it to get a feel for the density and amount needed. Also my 100% VG juice needed less cotton than the rest. Ended up burning the wick after the first few really good draws, and had a terrible taste in my mouth only liquor would fix.

Just built my first 2 Protank Heads with micro coils, one at 1.8 ohms and the other at 2.3. I used too much cotton the first time around too, now it has a nice airy draw (which I like) and no flooding, gurgling, dry hits all through the day. Firing about 9-10 watts, noticed a slightly burnt taste at 12 so I dialed back. Get the right amount of cotton in there and the flavor and vapor will be pretty nice.

Nothing special to add, except that with cotton wicks - less is more! Your wick should slide freely through the coil, as it expands when saturated.

Also, if you're using a thicker (higher VG) juice, you'll likely need to replace the wick more often - I replace mine every 3ml or so. Once you get the hang of it, this shouldn't worry you - it's easy, and well cheap!

Best of luck

I put just enough cotton through the coil to slide freely as the others already mention but I also stuff some extra on each side to cover up the holes made by the lack of flavor wicks. I make sure this extra cotton only covers the ends and not the coil, I am really just plugging the gaps, it helps to mold it in place if its moist.

And the "...I replace mine every 3ml or so.", is why I stay with the original coils and wicks. I can't stand having to "change" after every tank or two. Too much cotton - too little cotton and even when perfect - a problem is just ahead. I vape a LOT - each day and suppose if I built a dozen coils the 'swap' wouldn't be all that bad. It IS quick - I just can't get beyond a tank or two in the PT2 'Mini'.

Old dogs and new trick syndrome I suppose?? Yup.

I tried just doing a "wick swap" as I saw on "a" Ya'll Tube video. Swapping before even using a new coil/ wick setup. I admit that was easier. Yet I'd go through a box of "wicks" (not "coils") in a week or less. Then I had to 'rebuild' the wicks again and I got discouraged (or lazy - since I have all day - every day to do it) swap the old wick for more cotton.;)

I tried the tricks on longevity - still changing every tank or two. One amount for 'thick' juice - one amount for 'thin' juice; I'd lose track. Old people are like this ya' know!

I want to do it - but I don't. My loss I suppose.

I've been using cotton exclusively for about the past year and a half. Using my DIY peppermint juice (~70/30 PG/VG), I change wicks about every 20mLs. I use "rolled cotton"/cotton balls, so it's easy to 'pull and twist' a length of wick with some variation in diameter. Then just thread it through the coil until the 'right size' is seated, clip with scissors and you're good to go.

I should mention that when I use thinner (lower VG) juices - say, 70/30 - I only change wicks every 10ml or so.

And, of course, YMMV.
