Protank 2, Evic, 28 gauge kanthal. Barely a puff. Sad face.

Ok, so I am calling out everybody who has done a rebuild on a protank using 28 gauge kanthal and had positive results. I have been at it for a couple days now and had many that 'work' but I'm not so sure it's possible to have 'superior' results with my gear.

What I have going right now is a vertical coil measuring 1.4 ohms. Sadly, I'm running on an evic and can't run it over 3.92V, or 11W.

I'm about at the end of my rope right now. It takes over a second to get the vapor production started. All I have is 28 gauge wire, my protank, and my evic. Anybody got any suggestions on what I can do to get some good vapes out of my gear until I venture down to the USA where I can buy a real mod and not get price-raped?

Thanks guys. I'd love the help.

Yeah, wicking a vertical in the protank head and getting it right has to be a pistol, and heating up that much metal with an eVic at 11W will be slow, especially if there's too much juice. You really should get some 30g, or at least some 29. With an 8 wrap micro, the PT sings at 8-9 watts, easily within the range of your eVic.

Thanks Flavored. I suspected that with so much more surface area on the coil, I'd have to give it a bit more power.
I've read claims of people running 28 gauge coils of 2+ ohms at 4 volts and getting good performance, but the science doesn't seem to substantiate that very well. So I'm officially declaring those claims a steaming pile.

It's gonna take a couple weeks to get the 30G wire to canada, so I guess I'll just have to wait it out now.

Here's some excellent info http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/clearomizers/486794-protank-microcoil-discussion.html

And here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/coil-builds/416271-micro-coils-increase-vapor-flavor-th.html

All credit goes to Super_X_Drifter and MacTechVpr and others for the excellent info in these threads.

I would suggest a standard horizontal coil built on the largest drill bit that will fit in the slot on the head. I believe here in the states that would be 5/64". A coil winding jig can be fashioned from a coat hanger like the store bought one shown below, just make sure it fits to the bottom of the slot in the head. A coil with 10 wraps all touching each other, a wisp of cotton for the wick (no flavor wick on top) will rock your vaping world like no stock head ever has. Just wait a second or 2 to begin your draw to give the coil time to heat up. Once you get your 30 ga. 8 wraps should put you around 1.9 ohms vs 1.5 for the 10 wrap with 28 ga. The 30 ga. will heat up quicker.

Hope this tides you over

If your running a vertical coil you have to make sure the top lead leg is insulated from the coil or you will get shorts. On my vert coils I started using some eco wool as a sleeve over the coil then bend the top leg down so there is no chance of that leg contacting the coil. You could have a short between that leg and 1-2 coil wraps giving a false ohm reading but not being a full on dead short. BTW I've run 1.2 ohm coils on my evic with no issues.
